A method of doping involves soaking single-walled carbon nanotubes in molten iodine. Excess physisorbed iodine may then be removed by annealing.
The Effects Of Patch Properties On The Debonding Behavior Of Patched Beam-Plates, Anette M. Karlsson
The Effects Of Patch Properties On The Debonding Behavior Of Patched Beam-Plates, Anette M. Karlsson
Mechanical Engineering Faculty Publications
The debonding characteristics of patched structures are investigated in this study by means of an analytical model. In particular, the effects the lay-up sequence and edge tapering of a carbon-reinforced epoxy patch, as well as the beveling of an aluminum patch, have on the initiation, stability, and extent of the debonding are considered. The results presented show that both the degree of edge-tapering and the patch properties must be carefully selected in order to optimize the patched structure. It is also shown that when designing a patched system, it is important to model the correct boundary and load conditions to …
Activated Carbon And Process For Making Same, Francis John Derbyshire, Marit Jagtoyen
Activated Carbon And Process For Making Same, Francis John Derbyshire, Marit Jagtoyen
Chemical and Materials Engineering Faculty Patents
A process is described for the manufacture of activated carbon in the form of a powder, as granules or as extrudates. The process includes treating a biomass feedstock, such as woods, coconut shells, fruit pits, peats, lignites and all ranks of coal with a processing agent and an activation agent. The processing agent may be a natural or synthetic monomer, oligomer, polymer or mixtures thereof capable of interacting or co-polymerizing with the biomass feedstock. The activation agent may be, for example, phosphoric acid, zinc chloride or mixtures thereof. A high surface area, high hardness extruded activated carbon may be produced …
A Dynamic Analysis Of The Global Timber Market And Carbon Flux Of Forest Under Global Warming: An Integrated Modeling Approach, Dug Man Lee
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
As global warming migrates ecosystems toward the poles, the result has been a change in the distribution of ecosystem types and the productivity of ecosystem as well. Similar to other natural resources, forests are also potentially affected as ecosystems move toward the poles. Consequently, human beings are forced to adapt, and global warming will generate an impact on the global timber market through changes in timber harvests, regeneration inputs, stumpage prices, etc. In addition, the dynamic process of forest change in response to economic activities of human beings will accelerate or dampen the amount of carbon in the atmosphere. In …
Kinetics Of Laser Chemical Vapor Deposition Of Carbon And Refractory Metals, Feng Gao
Kinetics Of Laser Chemical Vapor Deposition Of Carbon And Refractory Metals, Feng Gao
Doctoral Dissertations
Three-dimensional laser chemical vapor deposition (3D-LCVD) has been used to grow rods of carbon, tungsten, titanium, and hafnium from a variety of hydrocarbons and metal halide-based precursors. A novel computerized 3D-LCVD system was designed and successfully used in the experiments. A focused Nd:Yag laser beam (λ = 1.06 μm) was utilized to locally heat up a substrate to deposition temperature. The rods, which grew along the axis of the laser beam, had a typical diameter of 30–80 μm and a length of about 1 mm. The precursors for carbon deposition were the alkynes: propyne, butyne, pentyne, hexyne, and octyne. Propyne …
Distributions Of Top, Ton And Toc In The North Pacific Subtropical Gyre: Implications For Nutrient Supply In The Surface Ocean And Remineralization In The Upper Thermocline, Jeffrey Abell, Steve Emerson, Paul Renaud
Distributions Of Top, Ton And Toc In The North Pacific Subtropical Gyre: Implications For Nutrient Supply In The Surface Ocean And Remineralization In The Upper Thermocline, Jeffrey Abell, Steve Emerson, Paul Renaud
Journal of Marine Research
We report measurements of total organic phosphorus, nitrogen, and carbon (TOP, TON, and TOC) along a meridional transect in the eastern subtropical North Pacific. In the surface waters, TOP and TON comprise 83% and 98% of the total dissolved phosphorus and nitrogen pools, respectively. Between the equatorial region and the subtropical gyre, there is a distinct gradient in surface TOP of about 0.25 µM, but very little gradient in TON. TOC increases by nearly 30 µM across the same region. Meridional advection of TOP along its gradient via Ekman transport can provide 40-80% of the phosphorus necessary to supply present …

The FEIS contains corrected and new material which supplements the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) issued May 14, 1999. The FEIS and the DEIS comprise the complete document. Please refer to the DEIS for more detailed analyses and descriptions of the proposed action and alternatives.
Patterns Of Collapse Chambers In The Endokarsts Of Mallorca (Balearic Islands, Spain), Àngel Ginés
Patterns Of Collapse Chambers In The Endokarsts Of Mallorca (Balearic Islands, Spain), Àngel Ginés
KIP Articles
A general overview on the patterns of collapse chambers in the karsts of Mallorca is presented. The great significance of single breakdown chambers and strings of large rooms as one of the major constituents of cave patterns is easy to recognize in the cave surveys of many Majorcan caves. Detailed mapping of several collapse features such as breakdown piles, sloped boulder floors, vault profiles, coalescence areas, boulder chokes and dome structures can yield useful information regarding description and better understanding of cave collapse patterns.
Organic Carbon Supply And Metabolism In A Near-Stream Groundwater Ecosystem, H. M. Valett, C. C. Dahm, Michelle A. Baker
Organic Carbon Supply And Metabolism In A Near-Stream Groundwater Ecosystem, H. M. Valett, C. C. Dahm, Michelle A. Baker

In groundwater ecosystems, in situ primary production is low, and metabolism depends on organic matter inputs from other regions of the catchment. Heterotrophic metabolism and biogeochemistry in the floodplain groundwater of a headwater catchment (Rio Calaveras, New Mexico, USA) were examined to address the following questions: (1) How do groundwater metabolism and biogeochemistry vary spatially and temporally? (2) What factors influence groundwater metabolism? (3) What is the energy source for groundwater metabolism?
At Rio Calaveras, surface discharge and water table elevation increased at the onset of spring snowmelt. Groundwater biogeochemical changes in response to snowmelt included increases in dissolved oxygen …
