Evaluation Of Energy Efficient Improvements To Portable Classrooms In Florida, Florida Solar Energy Center, Michael Callahan Nov 1999

Evaluation Of Energy Efficient Improvements To Portable Classrooms In Florida, Florida Solar Energy Center, Michael Callahan

FSEC Energy Research Center®

Florida has over 25,000 portable classrooms in use around the state. Energy costs for these structures exceed $20 million a year - or about 11% of all energy-related expenditures for educational facilities. Research has also shown interior ventilation rates in these classrooms typically fall far below the recommended levels in ASHRAE Standard 62-1989.

To explore ways in which costs might be reduced and the physical learning environment improved, we conducted a two year experiment in two highly instrumented portable classrooms at Silver Sands Middle School in Volusia County. A series of retrofits, aimed to cut energy use and improve ventilation …

Inklings Forever: Published Colloquium Proceedings 1997-2016

One of the greatest issues facing modern civilization to day is the evasion of character formation in individuals. The value of personal virtue is not something apart from public responsibility, but intrinsically intertwined. In his various books and writings C.S. Lewis reveals four areas where he observed this decline: the failure of modern ethics, scientism, educational trends, and the rise of propaganda as a surrogate for moral influence.

Prereferral Assistance Teams: The Impact Of Implementing Problem-Solving On Referrals And Accommodations., Leanne Lowell Josoff

Student Work

Prereferral assistance teams have been implemented in many schools to provide a formal process of monitoring interventions in regular education before referring students to testing for special education. The main purpose of the current study is to determine if using the problem-solving process during prereferral assistance team meetings is more effective than not using problem-solving during team meetings. The results from the study indicated that prereferral assistance teams that use problem solving are more successful in reducing the number of referrals to psychoeducational testing and in increasing the number of specific and appropriate accommodations developed during prereferral assistance team meetings. …
