Protecting Your Back: Weight Room Management, Peter J. Titlebaum, Gordon Rackley

Health and Sport Science Faculty Publications

Weight room supervision can be a formidable undertaking without the necessary preparations and precautions. Weight room supervisors are much like the Secret Service; that is, no matter what happens, if bad, it is the supervisor's fault. Risk management is more important now than at any point in history. The keys to preventing problems and creating an efficient weight room facility include a highly trained staff and a thoroughly detailed employee manual designed specifically for the weight room.

The Effects Of Critical Thinking Skills Training On Student Performance In An Educational Psychology Class, Eric J. Gee May 1995

The Effects Of Critical Thinking Skills Training On Student Performance In An Educational Psychology Class, Eric J. Gee

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Critical thinking skills have become an important part of current educational practices. However, there is little empirical evidence comparing the effectiveness of the programs teaching these skills. In addition, there are questions as to whether the skills should be taught within the class content or separate from the class content.

This study assigned students attending labs as part of an educational psychology class to two experimental conditions (content-based and content-free) and a control condition. Measures were scores on lab papers and test scores for the class. In addition, an attitude survey was used to assess student attitudes to each condition, …

South Dakota Coordinated Resource Management, James Johnson, Martin Beutler Feb 1995

South Dakota Coordinated Resource Management, James Johnson, Martin Beutler

Economics Staff Paper Series

CRM is young in South Dakota. Operating MOU's were signed in December 1988 to accommodate traditional and emerging issues on private as well as public lands. It wasn't until 1994 that fiscal resources were assembled to provide intensive CRM training. The training is three tiered: (1) inform high level administrators and organizational leaders about CRM and solicit their support, (2) present 13 CRM Community Training workshops in 2·day sessions to local community leaders, including landowners and resource personnel, and (3) train a cadre of CRM facilitators in two a day sessions, both private and public, broadly dispersed in the state, …

The following weaknesses are in the part-time teaGhing area of the CCS Program:

  • 2 to 5 new part-time teachers are hired each year
  • Most part-time teachers have no college level teaching experience
  • No part-time teachers with college comprehension teaching experience
  • No part-time teachers with study skills teaching experience
  • An annual teacher turnover with no trained replacements
  • There is limited time available to train staff adequately.

I propose to research, design, and videotape 20 to 25 teacher training videos for all three developmental levels of CCS including, but not limited to, reading comprehension methods and study skills. Instructional videos are a …

The Effect Of Hip Position And Emg Biofeedback Training On Selectively Increasing The Vastus Medialis Oblique In Relation To The Vastus Lateralis, Christina Diane Davlin Jan 1995

The Effect Of Hip Position And Emg Biofeedback Training On Selectively Increasing The Vastus Medialis Oblique In Relation To The Vastus Lateralis, Christina Diane Davlin

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) is a patellar tracking dysfunction usually associated with a muscular imbalance between the vastus medialis oblique (VMO) muscle and vastus lateralis (VL) muscle. The imbalance is most commonly attributed to a weak VMO resulting in a smaller VMO:VL ratio. Several electromyographic (EMG) studies have defined specific limb positions (such as external rotation of the hip) that preferentially activate the VMO. However, there has been no literature to show that preferential activation of the VMO successfully translates into increased VMO:VL ratios with training. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of hip rotation on …
