Guidelines For Establishing Irrigation Scheduling Policies, Charles M. Burt Sep 1995

Guidelines For Establishing Irrigation Scheduling Policies, Charles M. Burt

BioResource and Agricultural Engineering

Successful on-farm irrigation scheduling requires that water delivery projects adopt a service concept, and that water deliveries be made with a high degree of reliability. An arranged delivery schedule and seasonal volumetric allocations are additional requirements. Until these conditions are met, attempts to implement modern on-farm irrigation scheduling techniques to maximize water use efficiency, and to maximize yields will be only partially successful.

Schedule Management Competencies For Department Of Defense Program Managers, Jeffrey F. Brown Sep 1995

Schedule Management Competencies For Department Of Defense Program Managers, Jeffrey F. Brown

Theses and Dissertations

With ongoing public scrutiny of defense system acquisitions, due to numerous program failures resulting from cost and schedule overruns, now, more than ever, cost and schedule-management competencies are critical to program success. This research examined the schedule-management competencies required of defense program managers. A schedule-management competency model was developed from a foundation of past research. The model was evaluated through a mail survey of 484 intermediate and senior level military program managers assigned to Air Force Materiel Command. The results provided by 243 respondents indicate that 25 of the 28 competencies in the model were valuable to program managers and …

Why Schedules Slip: Actual Reasons For Schedule Problems Across Large Air Force System Development Efforts, William M. Cashman Sep 1995

Why Schedules Slip: Actual Reasons For Schedule Problems Across Large Air Force System Development Efforts, William M. Cashman

Theses and Dissertations

The three main objectives of this research were to identify the actual reasons for schedule problems across large Air Force system development efforts, to quantity the importance of each category of reasons in terms of frequency and severity, and to demonstrate that the reasons for schedule problems are not program unique, but are common across system development efforts. To this end, this thesis contains a categorization and analysis of 549 reasons for schedule difficulties on 22 large Air Force Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) programs from 1981 to 1994. These aircraft, missile, aircraft equipment, aircraft upgrade, and simulator programs had …

An Optimal Path Cover Algorithm For Cographs, R. Lin, S. Olariu Jan 1995

An Optimal Path Cover Algorithm For Cographs, R. Lin, S. Olariu

Computer Science Faculty Publications

The class of cographs, or complement-reducible graphs, arises naturally in many different areas of applied mathematics and computer science. In this paper, we present an optimal algorithm for determining a minimum path cover for a cograph G. In case G has a Hamiltonian path (cycle) our algorithm exhibits the path (cycle) as well.

Using Dynamic Cellular Manufacturing To Simplify Scheduling In Cell Based Production Systems, Vijay R. Kannan, Soumen Ghosh Jan 1995

Using Dynamic Cellular Manufacturing To Simplify Scheduling In Cell Based Production Systems, Vijay R. Kannan, Soumen Ghosh

Management Faculty Publications

Previous research has shown that the formation of temporary, logical manufacturing cells in a job shop, overcomes problems of high setup frequency typically found in job shops. In addition, this form of cellular configuration is more flexible than tranditional, group technology based cellular configurations. This research demonstrates that an added benefit of a dynamic cellular configuration is that it simplifies production scheduling, eliminating the need for more complex dispatching rules. In particular, it eliminates the need for further setup reduction when scheduling parts from the same family. Improvements in performance when employing setup reduction are shown to occur only when …
