Unproctored Internet Testing: Methods To Mitigate And Detect Cheating, Emily Annette Shindledecker Jan 2013

Unproctored Internet Testing: Methods To Mitigate And Detect Cheating, Emily Annette Shindledecker

Theses Digitization Project

The purpose of this study was to examine cheating in Unproctored internet testing (UTI). Unproctored internet testing is becoming increasingly prevalent for personnel selection. However, the issues and implications of cheating in such tests are largely unknown.

Issues In Validity Generalization The Criterion Problem, Raquel Hodge Jan 2010

Issues In Validity Generalization The Criterion Problem, Raquel Hodge

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Schmidt and Hunter‟s validity generalization model poses seven sources of error variance affecting validation studies. Of the seven sources of error variance, only four sources have been tested. This study looks at an additional source of error variance, the difference between studies in the amount and kind of criterion contamination and deficiency, as proposed by Schmidt and Hunter. The current study proposes a method of evaluating criterion contamination and deficiency in criterion measures in order to minimize their effects on the relationship between criterion and predictor measures. Two unique criteria are used including a traditional subjective measure of current performance …

Improving The Adverse Impact And Validity Trade-Off In Paraeto Optimal Composites A Comparison Of Weights Developed On Contextual Vs Task Performance, Howin Tsang Jan 2010

Improving The Adverse Impact And Validity Trade-Off In Paraeto Optimal Composites A Comparison Of Weights Developed On Contextual Vs Task Performance, Howin Tsang

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Recent research in reducing adverse impact in personnel selection has focused on the use of various weighting schemes to balance levels of adverse impact and the validity of selection processes. De Corte Lievens & Sackett (2007) suggested the use of the normal boundary intersection method to create a number of weights that optimize adverse impact and criterion validity. This study seeks to improve the efficacy of this solution by looking at specific types of performance, namely task and contextual performance. It will investigate whether a focus on contextual performance will improve the trade-off by requiring smaller losses in validity for …

Developing An Empirical Basis For Selecting A Strategic-Planning Team From Among Likely Candidates Based On Desired Emotional Intelligence Competencies, Robert Allen Reindel Jan 2006

Developing An Empirical Basis For Selecting A Strategic-Planning Team From Among Likely Candidates Based On Desired Emotional Intelligence Competencies, Robert Allen Reindel

Dissertations

Problem. Corporate teams are often established to complete assigned tasks as they would relate to planning, product development, process improvements, etc. There seems to be a lack of effective means for selecting team members based on objective criteria. Team-member selection is typically a process based only on the selector's judgment. While testing is a typical way to make hiring decisions, the same process is not used for creating teams.

Purpose of the Study. The purpose of this study was to explore a way of using identified competencies of emotional intelligence to objectively select team members for a strategic-planning initiative.

Method. …

Influences On The Perceived Reasonableness Of Employment Testing Accommodations For Persons With Disabilities, Bridget Ann Styers Jan 2001

Influences On The Perceived Reasonableness Of Employment Testing Accommodations For Persons With Disabilities, Bridget Ann Styers

Theses Digitization Project

The present study examined how the origin of an applicant's disability, the status of the job he/she was applying for and the level of test accommodation provided, influenced a participant's perception of what was a reasonable pre-employment testing accommodation. Additionally, how attributes of organizationsal members, such as age, education level and knowledge of ADA law influenced reasonableness of accommodation were examined.

A Comparative Study Of Integrity Tests: The Effect Of Situational And Individual Variables On Response Distortion, Nannette Shayne Searles May 1995

A Comparative Study Of Integrity Tests: The Effect Of Situational And Individual Variables On Response Distortion, Nannette Shayne Searles

Dissertations and Theses

The paper-and-pencil integrity test, which is used in industry as an employee selection device, has been largely developed outside the mainstream of psychological testing. The result has been that some testing programs have inadequately standardized testing conditions and/or other safeguards to ensure valid test results. Studies have shown that response distortion, or faking, is a problem with all types of tests, integrity tests being no exception. A correlation between the construct underlying integrity testing, such as the personality trait of conscientiousness, has yet to be investigated.

The primary purpose of the present study was to determine how response distortion on …

The Effects Of Criterion Contamination And Deficiency On Predictor Validity And Validity Generalization, Cheryl L. Pavlick Jan 1985

The Effects Of Criterion Contamination And Deficiency On Predictor Validity And Validity Generalization, Cheryl L. Pavlick

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this experiment is to examine one previously untested premise of the validity generalization model proposed by Schmidt and Hunter on test validity. The sample consisted of 307 subjects who were tested on measures constructed to be examples of contaminated, deficient, relevant and ultimate criteria. These criteria were correlated to a predictor, student GPA. The predictor-criteria relationship was observed over various sample sizes ranging from n = 25 to n = 300. The validity coefficients were hypothesized to change over increasing sample sizes in the same pattern as the other artifacts from Schmidt and Hunter's validity generalization model. …

A Validity Study Of The Wonderlic Personnel Test, William Daniel Buckley Jul 1957

A Validity Study Of The Wonderlic Personnel Test, William Daniel Buckley

Master's Theses

Business and Industry is turning more and more to the use of standardized psychological tests as an aid in the selection and placement of personnel. Many concerns want to have, along with all other pertinent information, a measure of a potential employee's general intelligence. Therefore, some sort of intelligence test is found in their test batteries. Management, in most cases, prefers these various tests to be as simple as possible in their administration and evaluation, thus avoiding unnecessary time am expense. There are a number of short intelligence tests which meet the above requirement One of these, the Wonderlic Personnel …
