The Private Pilot Check Ride: Applying The Spacing Effect Theory To Predict Time To Proficiency For The Practical Test, Michael Scott Harwin
The Private Pilot Check Ride: Applying The Spacing Effect Theory To Predict Time To Proficiency For The Practical Test, Michael Scott Harwin
Theses and Dissertations
This study examined the relationship between a set of targeted factors and the total flight time students needed to become ready to take the private pilot check ride. The study was grounded in Ebbinghaus’s (1885/1913/2013) forgetting curve theory and spacing effect, and Ausubel’s (1963) theory of meaningful learning. The research factors included (a) training time to proficiency, which represented the number of training days needed to become check-ride ready; (b) flight training program (Part 61 vs. Part 141); (c) organization offering the training program (2- or 4-year college/university vs. FBO); (d) scheduling policy (mandated vs. student-driven); and demographical variables, which …
Recognizing Barriers In The Elderly Population And Increasing Access To Case Management Services, Loveleena Alex
Recognizing Barriers In The Elderly Population And Increasing Access To Case Management Services, Loveleena Alex
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Abstract
Implementing case management can lead to fewer hospitalizations in the elderly population. Barriers influencing the number of hospitalizations include low socioeconomic status, transportation needs, health literacy, financial strain, multiple comorbidities, underserved populations, medication availability, availability of community resources, and access to primary care. A review of the available literature revealed that by addressing these barriers in a primary care setting and implementing case management, the number of hospitalizations can be decreased and the quality of life in the elderly population can be improved. This quality improvement project implemented a screening and referral process for chronic care management in the …
Self-Perceived Stigma Of Caregivers With Children On The Autism Spectrum In Latin America, Leah Michelle Jara
Self-Perceived Stigma Of Caregivers With Children On The Autism Spectrum In Latin America, Leah Michelle Jara
Theses and Dissertations
With the prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) continuing to spread along with limited knowledge on the disorder’s service accessibility, many caregivers are required to care for lifelong obligations, often at the sake of their own mental, physiological, and emotional health. This study aimed to explore self-perceived stigmas of caregivers in Latin America based on predictors including demographics, severity, and type of healthcare coverage. Participants included 2483 caregivers in Latin America who completed a survey targeting the challenges, priorities, barriers to care, and stigma they face caring for an individual with autism. Findings showed that age had a weak inverse …
Individual Differences In Police Officers’ Decision Styles In Order Maintenance Policing, Damarrah Elisheba Jameson
Individual Differences In Police Officers’ Decision Styles In Order Maintenance Policing, Damarrah Elisheba Jameson
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Day-to-day police work tends to be in order maintenance policing. These encounters necessitate officer discretion in decision responses to manage them. These decision responses reflect an officer’s decision style which precedes the encounter and drives subsequent decision making to manage them. However, little is known about officer-level decision style. For example, whether an officer has a rational, intuitive, dependent, avoidant, or spontaneous decision style (Scott& Bruce, 1995). Police training in any format often lacks attention to decision styles. As such, an officer’s decision style is most likely associated with demographics (e.g., age, gender) and occupational self-efficacy – a reflection of …
Effect Of Covid-19 On Icu Nurse Burnout, Kayce Sheppard
Effect Of Covid-19 On Icu Nurse Burnout, Kayce Sheppard
Honors College Theses
Burnout is becoming increasingly worse for those in the nursing field after the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. While all nurses are at risk, ICU nurses are seen as at a higher risk for this increased burnout due to the already high stress environment they are subjected to in their unit. Without proper intervention of this issue, the levels of burnout are expected to continue to remain high, leading to job dissatisfaction, short staffing, and reduced patient satisfaction. The objective of this study is to review the level of burnout among ICU nurses. A burnout study was conducted on ICU …
Japan: Where Did All The People Go? An Empirical Study On Economic And Social Impacts On Low Fertility In Japan, Sasha Heasley
Japan: Where Did All The People Go? An Empirical Study On Economic And Social Impacts On Low Fertility In Japan, Sasha Heasley
Business and Economics Honors Papers
This project analyzed potential impacts on the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) in Japan (2010 and 2015), which is dealing with both a declining population and an ageing population in parallel. Results indicate that income per person has the largest impact on TFR, and it is highly considered when making fertility decisions. Results also show that government policies are largely ineffective in impacting TFR. Results were obtained through two panel regressions and two Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regressions, in which TFR was the dependent variable.
Parental Involvement And Middle-School Student Education, John Michael Schetinski
Parental Involvement And Middle-School Student Education, John Michael Schetinski
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Parental involvement in education has long been recognized as a significant factor in shaping the academic success and overall development of middle school students. This thesis seeks to provide an analysis of the impact of parental involvement on middle school students' educational experiences, academic achievements, and socioemotional growth. This thesis also explores the various components of parental involvement, ranging from communication and academic support to participation in school activities. The research examined in this literature review used both qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate the comparisons between different forms of parental involvement and students' academic outcomes. Additionally, this body of …
Evaluating U.S. Household Telemedicine Use In Primary Care Settings, Robert Osobase
Evaluating U.S. Household Telemedicine Use In Primary Care Settings, Robert Osobase
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic's arrival in the United States restricted access and use of telemedicine in primary care providers (PCPs) settings. Addressing this issue is crucial since telemedicine is a confirmed method of encouraging patients and PCPs to promote quality health care. This quantitative study investigated the association between age, gender, and race, and PCPs offering telemedicine and U.S. household adults using telemedicine during COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. The Donabedian framework, which considers aspects of an organization's structure, process, and outcome, served as the study's foundation, incorporating age, race, and gender as independent variables, and PCPs and US adults as dependent …

Patient Characteristics And Telehealth Visits In A Hepatology Clinic, Maria E. Walters
Patient Characteristics And Telehealth Visits In A Hepatology Clinic, Maria E. Walters
DNP Projects
BACKGROUND: In an attempt to decrease significant no-show rates amongst telehealth patients in a Hepatology outpatient clinic, a clinic-specific intervention was executed, which was efficient in decreasing no-show rates, however could not continue to be financially supported.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate correlations between demographic data and social determinants of health with patients who showed and did not show for their telehealth appointments, with an overall goal of determining if there is a need for targeted support for telehealth appointments to decrease no-show rates.
METHODS: Electronic health records of telehealth patients were reviewed in an …

Unveiling The Commuting Experience Of An Urban University Community, Jannatul Adan Joarder
All ETDs from UAB
Conducting a comprehensive commuter survey is a prevalent task that can help to guide traffic operations, planning, designing, and infrastructure development decision. It is one of the best approaches to comprehending commuters’ attitudes and preferences and the present commuting practices. The commuting behavior of the commuters at and around a university campus varies from that of residential or commercial areas as the university often serves a diverse community of transportation users such as students, faculty, and staff who serve the university or receive services from the university in a variety of ways. The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is …
