Point Cloud Model Shape Analysis, Reed Williams Aug 2017

Point Cloud Model Shape Analysis, Reed Williams

Doctoral Dissertations

Shape analysis of point cloud surface models produces quality results and avoids the pitfalls of working with mesh models.

Shape analysis is concerned with understanding the shape of models geometrically, topologically, and relationally. Traditionally, shape analysis methods have operated on solid and surface models of objects, especially surface mesh models.

Recent advances in 3D camera technology has driven demand for automatic shape analysis tools.

Devices like the Microsoft Kinect are democratizing 3D sensing and such expansion of what was once an academic and industrial space is making it clear that there is a need for generally-applicable techniques which don't require …

Computer-Aided Detection Of Pathologically Enlarged Lymph Nodes On Non-Contrast Ct In Cervical Cancer Patients For Low-Resource Settings, Brian M. Anderson, Laurence E. Court, Ann Klopp, Stephen F. Kry, Jennifer Johnson, Erik Cressman, Arvind Rao, Jinzhong Yang Aug 2017

Computer-Aided Detection Of Pathologically Enlarged Lymph Nodes On Non-Contrast Ct In Cervical Cancer Patients For Low-Resource Settings, Brian M. Anderson, Laurence E. Court, Ann Klopp, Stephen F. Kry, Jennifer Johnson, Erik Cressman, Arvind Rao, Jinzhong Yang

Dissertations & Theses (Open Access)

The mortality rate of cervical cancer is approximately 266,000 people each year, and 70% of the burden occurs in Low- and Middle- Income Countries (LMICs). Radiation therapy is the primary modality for treatment of locally advanced cervical cancer cases. In the absence of high quality diagnostic imaging needed to identify nodal metastasis, many LMIC sites treat standard pelvic fields, failing to include node metastasis outside of the field and/or to boost lymph nodes in the abdomen and pelvis. The first goal of this project was to create a program which automatically identifies positive cervical cancer lymph nodes on non-contrast daily …

Vivado Design Interface: Enabling Cad-Tool Design For Next Generation Xilinx Fpga Devices, Thomas James Townsend Jul 2017

Vivado Design Interface: Enabling Cad-Tool Design For Next Generation Xilinx Fpga Devices, Thomas James Townsend

Theses and Dissertations

The popularity of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA) has grown in recent years due to their potential performance advantages over sequential software, and as a prototyping platform for application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC). Vendors such as Xilinx offer automated tool suites that can be used to program FPGAs based on a RTL description. These tool suites are sufficient forgeneral users, but they usually don't provide the opportunity to integrate custom computer-aideddesign (CAD) tools into the regular design flow. Xilinx first offered this capability in their ISE tool suite with the Xilinx Design Language (XDL). Using XDL, a Xilinx design could be extracted …

Assembly Language, Joe S. Lee May 2017

Assembly Language, Joe S. Lee

Theses

“Assembly Language” is a culmination of an exploration, through the medium of ceramics, in understanding complexity that arises through the interactions between simple components.

In the realm of computer science, the term “Assembly Language” refers to a low-level programming language for any programmable digital device. It is typically just one step above writing in the raw ones and zeros of binary. Every program at some point needs to be translated into assembly language so that it can be understood by the device, and every program that has ever been written for a digital device is essentially composed of a series …

A Framework For Describing And Assessing Process Capability For The Automated Creation Of 3dcad Platforms For Eto Products, William Fernando Quintero Restrepo May 2017

A Framework For Describing And Assessing Process Capability For The Automated Creation Of 3dcad Platforms For Eto Products, William Fernando Quintero Restrepo

Theses and Dissertations

Engineered to Order (ETO) products can benefit from the concepts and tools offered by Product and Platforms Line Engineering (PLE) (such as increased variety offer and efficient use of resources), and CAD/PLM (Computer Aided Design/Product Life-cycle management) in order to gain competitiveness. This paper portrays a framework for describing and measuring the processes that conform that connection between PLE and CAD; presents a description of the key components of the entire process, their relationships, as well a set of metrics for assessing the ability of a process for creating Geometrical CAD Platforms. A case study of an ETO product development …

Computer-Aided Design Integration In Virtual Reality Design Reviews For Improved Interaction With Engineering Models, Ian James Freeman May 2017

Computer-Aided Design Integration In Virtual Reality Design Reviews For Improved Interaction With Engineering Models, Ian James Freeman

Theses and Dissertations

Leveraging virtual reality (VR) technology to enhance engineering design reviews has been an area of significant interest for researchers since the advent of modern VR. The ability to interact meaningfully with 3D engineering models in these VR design reviews is an important, though often neglected, capability due to the difficulty of performing data translation between native CAD data and VR compatible file formats. A bi-directional interface was developed between a VR design review environment and a commercial CAD package that streamlines the data translation process. By transmitting both geometric data and selected metadata from the CAD system an improved format …

Process Control Laboratory Skid Refurbishment, Danny Crowder Jan 2017

Process Control Laboratory Skid Refurbishment, Danny Crowder

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

This project evaluates a salvaged process control skid for potential refurbishment and educational re-use. In-lab work evaluated the existing skid. Several process control elements have been recommended for replacement, including the process tank (due to corrosion), the pressure transmitter (operability/corrosion), the flow meters (mechanical) and the control system (age). The control valves, temperature elements and transmitters, pump, holding tanks, and the electrical heat exchanger should be salvaged. An I/P converter and pressure relief valve should be added to the pneumatic feed. Enclosing of all electrical components should be prioritized. An electrical schematic for a new control system should be implemented. …
