Prevention of near-term terrorist attacks requires an understanding of current terrorist organizations to include their composition, the actors involved, and how they operate to achieve their objectives. To aid this understanding, operations research, sociological, and behavioral theory relevant to the study of social networks are applied, thereby providing theoretical foundations for new methodologies to analyze non-cooperative organizations, defined as those trying to hide their structure or are unwilling to provide information regarding their operations. Techniques applying information regarding multiple dimensions of interpersonal relationships, inferring from them the strengths of interpersonal ties, are explored. Homophily is the sociological term for a principle that is easily observed and understood: similar people tend to associate with one another (or the well-known saying "Birds of a feather flock together"). Homophily creates divides among people with numerous demographic characteristics and causes people to surround themselves with others who are similar to themselves (McPherson et al., 2001). Race and ethnicity have the greatest influence on relationship choices followed by age, religion, education, occupation, and gender (McPherson et al., 2001). The purpose of this study was to better understand how adult attachment networks impact coping and current psychological functioning. The college student participants (n = 183) completed self-report questionnaires including modified versions of the Relationship Questionnaire (RQ) and the Relationship Structures (RS) to assess attachments in the mother, father, romantic partner, and best friend relationships; the Attachment Strength (AS) questionnaire designed for this study to measure the use of attachment functions; the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS); and the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R®). Dimensions Of Non-Violent Couple Conflict: A Look At Joint Leisure And Relationship Satisfaction, Lori Michaud

It is important to study relationships due to high divorce rates. This research study examines conflict, relationship rituals, and joint leisure activity and their correlations with relationship satisfaction. This study is based on 114 married and unmarried participants. With a bivariate analysis, this study found that when relationship satisfaction is high, relationship rituals and joint leisure activity is also high. It is likely the couple deals with conflict advantageously therefore, when given the opportunity to partake in relationship rituals and joint leisure activities, they are given the opportunity to connect, communicate and create shared meaning resulting in a positive experience …

Differences In Family Caregiver Burden And Use Of Coping Strategies, Cathy Michelle Brown

The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in caregiver burden and use of coping strategies by gender, ethnicity, relationship to the care-receiver, type of diagnosis and length of caregiving responsibilities. Quantitative data was obtained through a sample survey of 55 random caregivers served by Inland Caregiver Resource Center (ICRC). The study shows the need for agencies to develop education classes and workshops which are based upon different coping strategies as well as caregiver support groups.
