Optimal Path Planning And The Fast Marching Method, J. J. Clark Aug 2002

Optimal Path Planning And The Fast Marching Method, J. J. Clark

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The problem of determining an optimal path for an object moving through some obstacle space presents several nontrivial subproblems. The foremost being the computational complexity that is involved and how to best deal with the associated large data volume. For example, a non-symmetric object moving in three dimensions possesses six degrees of freedom. This can lead to a computational grid that may easily be on the order of 1012. Furthermore, for every point in the computational domain, several complex calculations must be performed. These include performing tests to determine if the object and obstacles intersect, and numerically solving …

The Influence Of Pre-Task Planning Time On The Speech Production Of "Accuracy-Oriented" And "Fluency-Oriented" Efl Learners, Hala Sayed Ayoub Jun 2002

The Influence Of Pre-Task Planning Time On The Speech Production Of "Accuracy-Oriented" And "Fluency-Oriented" Efl Learners, Hala Sayed Ayoub

Archived Theses and Dissertations

In the area of second or foreign language oral proficiency, previous research has not examined the effect of different lengths of pre-task planning time on the individual speaking habits of L2 learners. The present study aimed to address this problem by examining the influence of planning time on the speech production of accuracy-oriented and fluency-oriented EFL learners under three planning conditions: zero, one and three minutes. A pretest-posttest experimental design was employed to investigate the two research questions. Three oral picture description tasks constituted the pretest and two posttests, which were administered to the subjects in individual sessions. The pretest, …

The Hand Center: Considerations Related To The Design, Planning, Staffing, And Marketing, Marcia L. Miller Jan 2002

The Hand Center: Considerations Related To The Design, Planning, Staffing, And Marketing, Marcia L. Miller

Community & Environmental Health Theses & Dissertations

A therapist intent on planning a hand therapy center has no resources that are specific to this specialty area of practice. There are contributions utilized to plan occupational and physical therapy departments that can be synthesized to a degree in the planning of a hand therapy center. The practice of hand therapy incorporates a high degree of physical interaction, with close proximity to the patient and handling by the therapist. This paper explores the unique requirements of a hand therapy department. In order to determine hand therapists' preferences for equipment and space utilization a survey was developed and distributed to …

Landscape Overlay Zoning District Ordianance: For The Lafayette "Oil Patch Promenadea", Highway Us 90, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, Neal Wesley Kessler Jan 2002

Landscape Overlay Zoning District Ordianance: For The Lafayette "Oil Patch Promenadea", Highway Us 90, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, Neal Wesley Kessler

LSU Master's Theses

The city of Lafayette, Louisiana is on the threshold of developing a major transportation artery (the I-49 corridor) that will allow non-stop traffic flow through the city. The southern boundary of Lafayette, which is currently inhabited by industrial based business (oil service companies, storage yards, restaurants, and truck lines), will be intersected by this interstate. The area is not visually pleasing and needs direction to create a setting that reflects the unique personality of Lafayette. In recent years, landscape architects and planners have begun to employ a method of zoning called overlay district landscape ordinances and overlay zoning districts to …

The Influence Of Imagined Interactions On Verbal Fluency, Charles Choi Jan 2002

The Influence Of Imagined Interactions On Verbal Fluency, Charles Choi

LSU Master's Theses

Imagined interactions (IIs) are a type of social cognition and mental imagery whereby actors imagine an interaction with others for the purposes of planning. Within actual encounters, verbal fluency is a characteristic that contributes to the speaker's credibility. The planning that takes place through imagined dialogues can help a speaker overcome disfluency found in speech. This study shows that improvements in speaking style are also dependent upon the trait of communication apprehension that an individual experiences. Visualization can decrease apprehension levels, thus producing higher verbal fluency. Results from this study indicate planning's influence in the reduction of silent pauses but …
