Geographical site and situation play an important role in community growth and in making planning recommendations. Geology, topography, climate and soils strongly influence early growth and development, determining the shape of the community and providing parameters affecting economic activities. The human situation in terms of ethnic groups, technology and the spatial relationship of the community site to regional population centers, explains the long-range evolution of the settlement. The physical landscape normally places certain constraints on human activities that require an expenditure of time, money and effort ot overcome.
