Korydullo: A Study Of A Greek Prison For Women Offenders, Jennifer Andrea Panagopoulos

Doctoral Dissertations

A review of the literature reveals that more and more attention is being focused on the prison as an object of scientific study. Despite its vast dimensions the field has been confined--except in a few instances--to the study of male prisons. The female prison, in the United States and in other countries, has been overlooked. To offset this shortcoming in criminological research, this study seeks to explore the structure of a Greek prison for women offenders.

The data for this study were gathered over a period of approximately one year at Korydullo, the only prison for women offenders in Greece. …

Stability And Change In Patterns Of Wife-Beating: A Systems Theory Approach, Jean Grindell Giles-Sims

Doctoral Dissertations

This research is a longitudinal study of wife battering using a system's theory approach. Two types of longitudinal analyses are presented. The second type of longitudinal analysis is the comparison of the number and the frequency of men's and women's violent acts at two points: in the year prior to entering a shelter for battered women and six months later.

In-depth interviews with 31 battered women who had voluntarily sought help at a shelter provide histories of violence as well as information on their own early family …

The subjects were asked to respond to a series of conflict situations under three experimental conditions of confidentiality, scrutiny by parents, and scrutiny by …
