Temperature Effect On Leaf Water Potential Measurements, Rex J. Prosser May 1973

Temperature Effect On Leaf Water Potential Measurements, Rex J. Prosser

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Silver foil psychrometers were used to monitor water potential in different portions of maize leaves which were subjected to temperature gradients. The psychrometers were preliminarily calibrated over standard NaCI solutions at temperatures ranging from 5°C to 45°C in an aluminum plate apparatus designed to provide uniform temperatures within each psychrometer even while overall temperature was changing. Based on the calibrations, empirical temperature correction equations were derived and used to correct psychrometer readings at different temperatures to equivalent values at 25°C. Temperatures on a single maize leaf were varied by placing the long leaf through an insulated box with several compartments …

A Seasonal Distributional Survey Of The Epiphytic Diatoms Of The Outer Banks Region Of North Carolina With Respect To Temperature And Salinity, Charles Welles Belin Jr. Apr 1973

A Seasonal Distributional Survey Of The Epiphytic Diatoms Of The Outer Banks Region Of North Carolina With Respect To Temperature And Salinity, Charles Welles Belin Jr.

OES Theses and Dissertations

This study was initiated to investigate epiphytic diatoms at selected stations along the North Carolina coast and bay region. The relationships between these organisms and the season of the year and salinity and temperature of the water in which they were found are considered. The special affinity between the epiphytic diatoms and their host plants is also discussed. The specific data were analyzed statistically via linear correlation coefficients, graphs of least squares-best fit, and multiple linear regression analysis.

From the statistical tests, it was found that the mean number of epiphytic diatoms shows a significant multiple linear regression with respect …

Statistical Analysis Of A Seining Survey, James Kent Dias Jan 1973

Statistical Analysis Of A Seining Survey, James Kent Dias

MUSC Theses and Dissertations

The surf zone at Folly Beach, South Carolina was seined on a biweekly basis for two years (October 1969 through October 1971). A total of 5,517 specimens of fish and one invertebrate species (Arenaeus cribrarius) representing 20 families, 33 genera, and 42 species were collected. The five most important species collected in the surf were Menidia menidia, Arenaeus cribrarius, Trachinotus carolinus, Menticrrhus littoralis, and Anchoa mitchilli. A computer based information system was used to generate the necessary reports and summary statistics. Stepwise multiple regression techniques were used to relate occurrence of the five important surf species to selected physical parameters. …
