The purpose of this thesis is to present a body of data concerning segregated housing facilities for Negroes in Detroit. It will attempt to cover both the historical development and the present situation of segregation. Considerable emphasis will be placed upon the typology and construction of restrictive covenants. The functions of various community organizations in the area of housing problems will also be examined. There will be some effort at prediction of future trends. The motivations and social psychological forces behind segregation will, of necessity, be given only cursory treatment.

This thesis proposes to examine six novels of the period 1890-1910 for evidence of new trends in the treatment of women in fiction and for signs of social criticism. The novels chosen are major works of representative British and American realists and naturalists. The authors to be considered, Thomas Hardy, Stephen Crane, George Moore, George Gissing, Theodore Dreiser, and Arnold Bennett, were writers who, in varying degrees, came under the influence of the Continental writers who were the cause of the aforementioned controversy.

This thesis presents the results of an investigation conducted to improve the weather resistance of plywood assemblies used in prefabricated housing manufacture. Specifically, this work involved water sealers for edge joints (called edge sealers), the prevention of surface transfer of water vapor through plywood (called vapor barriers), and fillers for structural defects in the wood (called core void fillers). Two edge sealers for plywood were developed that were considered successful in resisting water permeation. One was a quick drying paint formulated by the addition of 30 per cent leaded zinc oxide to 70 per cent Arco primer paint No. 156. …

One of the phases of fish investigation is to determine the pattern of scale development is fishes. The problem deals with a study of the gross development of scales and their distribution over the body in Salmo clarkii spilurus Cope, Rio Grande Cut-throat trout. "This trout is known only from the upper Rio Grande basin and southward into the mountains of Chihuahua." The Cut-throat trout is a member of the Family Salmonidae and often goes under such common names as black spotted trout, mountain trout, New Mexico native trout, red-throat trout and various other titles.
