A Political Profile Of Utah Women, Ann Wassermann Jan 1973

A Political Profile Of Utah Women, Ann Wassermann

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

This paper is a product of the desire to take advantage of the enormous amount of valuable data available in the files of the Bureau of Government and Opinion Research at Utah State University. The manpower and financial demands of doing the actual polling and getting the totals quickly to the public or private client make a detailed analysis of the conglomerate of studies a near impossibility.

It was my purpose to undertake a segment of just this type of research and integration of data. The increasing frequency with which women as a minority and voting group have been referred …

Oxidation Of Thin Silver Films By Ozone And Atomic Oxygen, Lawrence R. Thorne Jan 1973

Oxidation Of Thin Silver Films By Ozone And Atomic Oxygen, Lawrence R. Thorne

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

Recently, thin silver film detectors have been used to determine atomic oxygen profiles in the 70-100 km region of the upper atmosphere. The detectors' sensitivity to atomic oxygen is the result of the formation of silver oxide(s) which cause their electrical resistance to increase. A common procedure to calibrate and to make these detectors more sensitive is to cycle them through a series of three or more oxidations and reductions. This paper indicates that this cycling makes silver films more sensitive to ozone, causing them to be usable only at heights greater than 38 km. Also reported herein are experimentally …

The Effect Of The Herbicide Glyphosate On The Growth Of Selenastrum Capricornutum, Judith Susan Eisen Jan 1973

The Effect Of The Herbicide Glyphosate On The Growth Of Selenastrum Capricornutum, Judith Susan Eisen

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

The herbicide glyphosate (MON-0139), an isopropylamine salt of N- (phosphonemethyl)glycine, was tested to determine its effects on the growth of the fresh water green alga Selenastrum capricornutum. Experiments were carried out to determine algicidal, algistatic, and inhibitory concentrations of the compound.

Concentrations from 5 ppm to 1000 ppm were inhibitory to the growth of the alga, but the effects were algistatic, rather than algicidal. At concentrations from 0.1 ppm to 1.0 ppm the growth of the alga was stimulated by the presence of the herbicide, while at concentrations from 0.001 ppm to 0.05 ppm the effects of the herbicide were …

Directing Of Mice And Men, James Leavell Edwards Jan 1973

Directing Of Mice And Men, James Leavell Edwards

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

The work of the playwright is necessarily an interpretation and reflection of his time. The work of the company in a theatrical production is necessarily an interpretation and reflection of the playwright as he is seen through their own time. These works are readily perceived by the audience in the living theatre experiences through the sensory impressions of their eyes and ears.

In contrast to that which the audience perceives, the world of the director is unknown. Despite the fact that he is the premier artistic coordinator, his job is completed when the curtain rises, with the spectators viewing the …

The French Influence On Eighteenth - Century English Literature, Linda Jane Grow Jan 1973

The French Influence On Eighteenth - Century English Literature, Linda Jane Grow

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

The development of English literature in the eighteenth century was strongly influenced by France and French writers. Lately there has been an attempt to belittle the French influences. It is true that in the past the Gallic influence has been exaggerated, but it really cannot be overlooked.

Historically it is true to treat England and France as one country in respect to their literary activity between the middle of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Roughly, there were about 100 years, between the execution of Charles I in 1649 and the execution of Louis XIV in 1793, during which there was …

Utopia..., David A. Griffith Jan 1973

Utopia..., David A. Griffith

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

This short story is an attempt to dramatize human relations as the crux of Utopianism. Its science fiction setting has been deemphasized in order to keep distraction at a minimum. The House described in the story may be taken as a symbol of the phalanx - the physical structure - associated with Utopias. The story's focus, however, is on the importance and vulnerability of interpersonal communication in Utopia.
