Children with developmental delays have barriers to accessing early interventions to help develop their childhood milestones. An accessible intervention considered a universal language to all cultures is integrative music therapy. Music therapy paired with in-home care can create a healing environment for children to learn developmental skills, initiate play, and express their emotions with the nurse’s guidance. An integrative music therapy educational program was developed using Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring as a theoretical framework for the pediatric nurses working in a rural Midwest home health care company. This study aims to investigate the impact of music therapy on nonverbal and verbal communication behaviors of a 13 year old male diagnosed with autism. A single-case study design was used, collecting both quantitative and qualitative data. Qualitative data included analysis of the clinician/ researcher’s session notes and personal reflections over six months. Video recordings of three sessions in the last two months of the treatment were collected as quantitative data. The client’s nonverbal and verbal behaviors in the recorde sessions were assessed by the clinician/researcher and her supervisor using an assessment tool designed by the researcher. This pilot study was designed to explore the use of mindfulness-based music therapy in an intensive outpatient program for adults with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. All participants completed the Brief Serenity Scale (Kreitzer et al., 2009) as a pre-test prior to their participation in this study. Participants took part in four monthly 50-minute mindfulness-based music therapy groups. At designated points throughout each music therapy session (including the beginning, end, and after each specific experience), the participants marked on a Likert scale where their thoughts were, in relation to the past, present, and future. Chronic pain affects more than 1 in 4 individuals in the United States. Many patients are being prescribed opioids to manage this pain, leading to an immense problem involving addiction, overdoses, and preventable deaths. Music therapy has been shown to provide “music analgesia,” improving anxiety, depression, and mobility problems associated with chronic pain conditions. The most benefit was seen when the music was known to the patient, the patient had a role in choosing the music, and when the music had a beat of less than 120 beats per minute. Mechanical ventilation (MV) is a medical intervention used to assist the respiratory function of someone who is medically compromised. Patients need to wean from the ventilator in order to resume breathing on their own. A spontaneous breathing trial (SBT) is used to determine one’s readiness to be liberated from the ventilator. Music therapy is the use of music interventions, facilitated by a board-certified music therapist, to address patient-specific goals within a therapeutic relationship. This phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of three music therapists when working with actively dying hospice patients. The participants spoke of their experiences, drew mandalas, and improvised music. Through the lens of Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis the interview transcripts were coded two main themes emerged: clinical experiences and personal experiences. Subthemes under clinical experiences included use of ongoing assessment, clinical reasoning, clinical use of music to meet patient needs, roles as music therapist, facing challenges in the work, and working with patients’ spirituality.
