Formation Of Flexible Manufacturing Cells With Human Lifting Consideration., Setiadi. Lesmana Jan 2003

Formation Of Flexible Manufacturing Cells With Human Lifting Consideration., Setiadi. Lesmana

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Manufacturing companies are being forced to design and organize their manufacturing operations to survive the competition and to satisfy the customers' needs. Cellular Manufacturing Systems (CMS) have been considered as an important step in achieving these objectives. In this research, mixed integer programming models are developed. The objective of the models is to minimize the total cost function associated with the formation of the manufacturing cells, while considering the human limitation of manual lifting tasks. In addition, the multi period models consider machine relocation and/or manpower level change to balance machine and operator workload throughout the production periods. The ...

The Effects Of Gender And Marital Status On Simulated Hiring Decisions., Simone (Maheu). Arbour Jan 2003

The Effects Of Gender And Marital Status On Simulated Hiring Decisions., Simone (Maheu). Arbour

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and upper-year business students (N = 89) evaluated applications for an upper-level management position. A 2 x 2 (applicant gender X marital status) between subjects design was used to examine the effects of the independent variables on a variety of work-related dimensions. Rather than having an overall consistent effect on the participants' evaluations of the applicants, gender and marital status affected distinct work-related variables. Gender influenced measures of work habits (favoring females over males) while marital status influenced measures of emotional stability (favoring married applicants over single applicants) and organizational commitment (favoring single applicants over married ...

A Systems Analysis And Design Approach For Modelling Of Participatory Manufacturing Systems., Ruth Jill. Urbanic Jan 2003

A Systems Analysis And Design Approach For Modelling Of Participatory Manufacturing Systems., Ruth Jill. Urbanic

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The goal of this research was aimed at understanding the effects of human worker attributes within the manufacturing system environment; hence, a model is needed to provide insights into the sensitivities of a manufacturing system. To this end, a framework has been developed which is valid for different perspectives and environments. A matrix methodology has been created that assesses the three levels of manufacturing complexity: product complexity to process complexity and operational complexity. The systematic approach has lead to the development of an objective measure of complexity, which can be used to "mathematically" show tradeoffs at each level. A model ...

An Object-Oriented Analysis Technique For Developing Object-Oriented Simulations In Silk., Lia. Zannier Jan 2003

An Object-Oriented Analysis Technique For Developing Object-Oriented Simulations In Silk., Lia. Zannier

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Simulation is very popular as an analysis tool for complex systems. A new paradigm shift towards object oriented simulations is hoping to make simulations even more powerful and accessible. However, in order for those not familiar with object oriented techniques to join this shift, methods must be developed for them to build object oriented simulations, until they acquire an understanding of this programming paradigm. This is an attempt to develop a procedure for just such novice model builders. This thesis begins with some background on object oriented paradigm concepts. It then provides an overview of several different object oriented analysis ...
