Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This work is no thesis in the strictest sense of the term; it is a contribution. I have attempted to make an exact reproduction of the Journal of the Minutes of the Board of Trustees of the University of Mississippi, 1845-1860, and have compiled an appendix with biographical sketches of the members of the Board and Faculty.

The Spiders Of South Dakota, Allan G. Peterson
The Spiders Of South Dakota, Allan G. Peterson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Spiders constitute the order of Araneida, which is one of the principal divisions of the class Arachnida. The Arachnida also includes scorpions, whipscorpions, pseudosscorpions, harvestmen, mites, and ticks. Some of the distinguishing characteristics of the Araneida are as follows: The head and thorax are consolidated into a cephalothorax. The abdomen is unsegmented and joined to the cephalothorax by a short narrow stalk. There are six pairs of appendages on the cephalothorax: chelicerae, pedipalps with heir basal masticulatory endites, and four pairs of walking legs.

Relief And Family Welfare Problems Of The Broken-Home Child In South Dakota, Robert L. Mcnamara
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In 1938, the Rural Sociology Department of South Dakota State College, together with the South Dakota Works Progress Administration and the South Dakota State Department of Social Security, undertook a survey to determine the extent and cost of child dependency in South Dakota. Schedules were filled in each county of the State under the supervision of W.F. Kumlien, Professor of Rural Sociology, South Dakota State College; Dr. J.P. Johansen, now of North Dakota State College; and Robert L. McNamara. Filling and editing of the schedules, and tabulation has been carried on by the Department of Rural Sociology with employees paid …

Teacher Load In The Three, Four, And Five Teacher High Schools Of South Dakota, Newton C. Staley
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study deals with the problem of teacher load in three, four and five teacher, four year accredited high schools in the state of South Dakota. These schools compromise 62.7 percent of all the four year accredited high schools in the state. They represent, in general, the type of high school that most of our small communities operate; and furnish secondary education to a large majority of our rural boys and girls.
The Effect Of Orally Ingested Selenium Upon The Blood Picture, Feed Consumption And Growth Of The Normal Dog And The Effect Of Arsenic In Chronic Selenium Poisoning, Morris Rhian
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Chronic selenium poisoning, commonly known as "Alkali Disease", is quite common in most of the states in the Great Plains area. Since the discovery that selenium is the cause of "Alkali Disease", as a result of a survey by Franke and others (1) in 1934, and the isolation of selenium from toxic grains by Robinson, there has been a great deal of work reported on the effects of selenium on the animal body. A summary of the work reported in studying selenium poisoning was published by Moxon (2) in 1937.
A Study Of The Piezoelectric Effect In Electrets, Perry Williams
A Study Of The Piezoelectric Effect In Electrets, Perry Williams
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A paper published in 1925 by M. Eguchi (1) described the preparation of a permanently charged wax on its solidification in a rather strong electrostatic field. Such charged bodies were named electrets. Later work has shown the charge will remain essentially constant over a period of several years. A rather extensive investigation was carried on by A. Germant (2) and published in 1935.

Thesis (M.S.) in Education--University of Maine, 1939.
The purpose of this study is to show three hundred years of educational progress in Windsor, Connecticut, from 1614, when the earliest records are found, through the colonial period, the period of parish control of schools and the period of town and private control of schools.
This thesis is based almost entirely on original records and documents. All show intimate glimpses of one of the most interesting and most historic communities in all New England.

An Investigation Of The Mill Development Of Aroostook County, Maple Ismay Percival
An Investigation Of The Mill Development Of Aroostook County, Maple Ismay Percival
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study of mill development in Aroostook County attempts to survey a phase of Aroostook’s industrial history up to the time of the County’s definite emergence as a predominantly agricultural area. The treatise likewise has tried to show how the present status has been achieved out of a definitely varied background. The scope of treatment has been, of necessity, somewhat restricted because, by and large, source materials relating to the County’s history are scattered and fragmentary. In only a few localities have there been any attempts made toward a concrete analysis of the town’s activities, economic or otherwise. Where possible …

The Efficiency Of Churn Washing Method And The Keeping Quality Of Butter As Indicated By Yeast And Mold Counts, T. Allen Evans
The Efficiency Of Churn Washing Method And The Keeping Quality Of Butter As Indicated By Yeast And Mold Counts, T. Allen Evans
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Of all the equipment used in the manufacture of butter, no single piece has as close contact with the finished product as does the churn while at the same time no piece of equipment is more difficult to keep properly cleaned. The workers in the dairy industry have expended much time and effort attempting to build a churn which could be kept in a more satisfactory state, especially from a bacteriological point of view. As yet no satisfactory material for churn construction has been found to replace wood which at best is difficult to keep free of micro-organisms. Since it …

A Study Of The Sublingual Absorption Of Insulin, Byrl E. Benton
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Diabetes, as a disease, has been known for centuries, reference being made to it in the Bible as "sweet urines", but it was left for Claude Bernard to throw the first light on the cause of this disease. He stated that certain internal influences in the pancreas were responsible for diabetes.
