Learning why some of these countries do better than others is of interest in discovering what causes a country’s economy to grow in general. This dissertation examines the role of foreign aid in economic growth and development of Jordan. The flow of foreign capital takes two main forms: private foreign investment, mostly foreign direct investment by large multinational corporations, and public development assistance (foreign aid) from both individual national governments and multinational donor agencies. The distinguishing characteristic of foreign aid is the concessional element. In this dissertation, recent techniques and advances in time-series analysis are used in the empirical section of Chapters 2 and 3, i.e., vector autoregression (VAR), impulse response functions, and variance decompositions. The Navajo reservation located in portions of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah is rich in low sulfur coal deposits, ideal for strip mining operation. Presently, the Navajo Nation has entered into extensive coal leases with several large companies and utilities. Contracts have committed huge quantities of Navajo coal for mining.

The present research has been directed to evaluate the shadow prices of Navajo coal and identify optimal coal extraction. An economic model of coal resource extraction over time has been structured within an optimal control problem has been formulated as a discrete dynamic optimization problem.

The purpose of this study was to examine the production and marketing behavior of pineapple farmers in the Soesdyke/Linden Land Development Project in Guyana. A random sample was drawn from eight locations in the project and 51 personal interviews were conducted with pineapple farmers. Emphasis was placed on ascertaining the current levels and use of basic inputs in the production process as well as determining the profitability of pineapple production. The main concern of this study was two-fold: (a) to compute the Iranian economy's long-run growth potential consistent with full-capacity utilization of the output and stocks with the existing current and capital account matrices; and (b) to simulate the impacts that changing petroleum export levels have on capital formation, employment, and income distribution.

The analysis proceeded by developing a closed dynamic interindustry model in order to compute the "turnpike" growth rate. The development of oil shale resources will have a significant impact on the Uintah Basin in Utah. To analyze this impact, this study used a regionalized imput-output model. The input-output table for the State of Utah was revised to fit the Uintah Basin, using the RAS technique.

The scarcity of water in the Basin may cause a shift of water use from irrigated agriculture to oil shale. The historical development of the appropriation doctrine of water allocation is outlined and Utah water policy is examined.
