The purpose of this paper is to undertake a survey of state of the art high speed bipolar bit slice microprocessor elements. Three systems are discussed: The 2900 microprocessor family; the 10800 microprocessor family and the 8X02 microcontroller. A description of the microprocessor and microprogram controller elements for each family is presented and an example of the 2900 family is discussed.

Several alternate systems for use in implementing the 911 emergency system in Orange County, Florida were investigated. The proposed systems were compared with the already existing systems on the basis of reliability, response time, and cost. System reliability was the prime consideration of the study. Flow charts of each system were formulated in order to determine the functions required of equipment and humans. The reliability was then determined by examining the difficulty of the tasks that each was required to perform. Reliability models of the present and proposed systems were constructed. This paper presents the background and procedures leading to development of a simulation model to analyze the impact of certain decision variables on operational system performance and workloads as the repair facility of a typical Navy field site. The research examines the impact of maintenance support concepts, as implemented by changes in the decision variables, associated with the broader application of Automatic Test Equipment. The initial effort consisted of data collection and field site surveys which culminated in defining a work flow model illustrating typical repair facility operations. Three groups of women from undergraduate psychology classes at the University of Central Florida were exposed to an experimental treatment which consisted of either a feminist, anti-feminist or a sex-role neutral speech. All subjects were administered the Feminism II Scale prior to the treatment, and the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale both prior to and immediately following the treatment conditions. No posttest differences in total self-esteem scores were noted among the treatment conditions. The anti-feminist treatment sample did have significantly lower scores on the family self subscale of the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale than either the feminist or control groups. This thesis describes a method of transforming a deconvolution problem into an equivalent convolution problem. A short discussion of the theory behind convolution and deconvolution is included, along with a survey of techniques now being used. A new method using a synthesized compensator is proposed and mathematically developed. Finally, the results of applying this method to several real and analytical signals are given.

Early psychological research on achievement motivation has focused on the effects of fear of failure and the wish to succeed as component parts of need for achievement (nAch). Achievement motivation is defined as a need to achieve for its own sake rather than for the benefits of such achievement (Kimble & Garmezy, 1968, p. 691). It is considered to be a fairly stable personality characteristic, not particularly goal specific (Berkowitz, 1972, p. 115), involving two specific aspects--wish (or hope) to succeed and fear of failure. This thesis discusses the dispersion of optical pulses in fiber waveguides. Procedures for determining the transfer function of an optical fiber using either time domain measurements or frequency domain measurements are given. A test set is described which uses time domain measurements for dispersion characterization. Complex transfer function data are presented for various fiber lengths as well as optical connectors. Prediction of bandwidths of long fibers from bandwidth/measurements taken on shorter length fibers is discussed. A relation between the bandwidth of cascaded connectors in terms of the bandwidth of a single connector is obtained.

When a filter transfer function in s is replaced with the bilinear transform in z, the resulting discrete model represents the original continuous model within a second order accuracy of integration. A unique set of recently discovered minimum memory algorithms that perform the bilinear transform on a continuous transfer function are implemented on an INTEL 8080 microprocessor system. Scaling techniques are used to frequency scale all transfer functions to a standardized frequency. Two common classes of filter functions in use today, Butterworth functions and Chebyshev functions, are based upon solutions to special cases of the Sturm-Liouville equation. Here, solutions to several other special cases of the Sturm-Liouville equation were used to develop filter functions, and the properties of the resulting filters were examined. The following functions were explored: Chebyshev functions of the second kind, untraspherical functions of the second and third kinds, Hermite functions, and Legendre functions. Filter functions were developed for each of the first five polynomials in each series of functions, and magnitude and phase responses were tabulated and plotted. …

Small mammal population dynamics and community structure were studied in three East Central Florida communities. The communities were compared as distinct stages of a sand pine scrub sere. The small mammals live-trapped with greatest frequency in this 3852 trap-night study were all cricetine rodents, Peromyscus polionotus niveiventris (beach mouse), Sigmodon hispidus littoralis (cotton rat), and Peromyscus gossypinus palmarius (cotton mouse). Population numbers, survival, body weights, hind foot lengths, age structure, sex ratios, reproductive cycles, and movements were discussed for each of three species mentioned. These data will serve as a baseline information for ecological monitoring studies associated with NASA Space …

The preponderance of females in the depressed population is a well established fact. Various hypotheses for this fact are reviewed and the hypothesis that females accepting the feminine role will be more likely to become depressed during their middle years than a more androgenous woman is submitted. To support this hypothesis a study was designed utilizing a Clinical group consisting of females, 35 to 50 experiencing depression and undergoing treatment for depression at one of three mental health centers and a Non-clinical group consisting of women, same age group, not experiencing depression and who had never undergone treatment for depression. …

A bench scale laboratory ozonator was constructed and determined to produce 27 mg O3/hr. A contacting system and experimental procedure was developed to approximate a mass balance of 0, 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 ppm were applied to raw and magnesium treated water from Lake Washington which is the potable water source for Melbourne, Florida. The effect of ozone on trihalomethane precursors was studied by comparing THM formation at 1, 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours following chlorination. The concentrations of each specie, chloroform, bromodichloromethane, dibromochlormethane and bromoform are reported. The highest 96 hour TTHM concentrations reported were 2773 …

The introduction of a new checkout language at Kennedy Space Center has required more effort to create test and operations software than anticipated. The new language is called GOAL, for Ground Operations Aerospace Language. The feasibility of a computer aided GOAL coding system that would reduce the effort required to create GOAL programs is investigated in this report. Lake Eola is a land-locked lake located in downtown Orlando, Florida. Its surface area is approximately 27.0 acres (11.0 Ha) and water depth is 2 to 3 feet (0.6 to 0.9 meters) near the shore and 22 feet (6.7 meters) toward the center. Periodical water samples were collected from the lake and storm drains for various stormwater events and physiochemical parameters were analyzed to calculated loading rates from nutrients and heavy metals released to Lake Eola. A discussion of the Rorschach's validity as a diagnostic tool seems most manageable when validity is addressed not in terms of global personality descriptions, but rather in terms of specific subquestions. This paper investigates the Rorschach's usefulness as an indicator of cognitive functioning in preadolescent children. Within a developmental framework and focusing primarily upon the cognitive theories of Jean Piaget, predictable stages of the child's intellective growth are described with an emphasis on Rorschach response patterns which seem to best chronicle that growth. Experimental And Standard Formats For Procedural Instruction: Evaluation Of Merging Pictorials And Words, Anne M. Polino

Three methods of training procedural tasks were studied. Forty-five high aptitude and fourth-five low aptitude Naval trainees from the Basic Electronics and Electricity School, Orlando, Florida, were given training with either a programmed instruction text with a pictorial-print information presentation format, or a standard narrative text. The effects of instructional method and aptitude on the performance of a procedural task after 1 1/2 hours of study and after on week's time were evaluated. It was shown that subjects who studied the programmed instruction text with the pictorial-print information presentation format made significantly (p<.0001) fewer performance errors, immediately after study and after one week, than did the subjects who studied the other methods. It was also shown that high aptitude subjects performed significantly (p<.0001) better than low aptitude subjects, regardless of training method. However, it was found that the low aptitude subjects who studied the programmed instruction text with the pictorial-print information presentation format performed significantly (p < 0.1) better than the low aptitude subjects who studied the other materials. These low aptitude subjects who studied the other materials. This paper is a detailed review of published research related to the use of operant procedures and techniques in the development of speech behaviors in severely language handicapped children. Review of this literature suggests that there currently exists an operant technology for the development of speech behaviors in a great many severely language handicapped children. Based on the procedures reviewed, a general program for the development of speech behaviors is suggested, which includes behavioral referents by means of which a therapist may both determine the potential utility of the recommended techniques and decide upon an appropriate starting point for training.

The physical properties and subjective characteristics of sound and several special methods of measuring sound levels are discussed in order to provide a basic understanding of sound in general and noise in particular. The Federal Aviation Administration's regulation, FAR36, which stipulates the allowable perceived noise levels produced by commercial jet aircraft, is examined in detail. This research investigates organic polymers, inorganic coagulants and separate unit operations for their effect on the total tri-halogenated (TTHM) residuals in a finished water. The water samples utilized for this project were taken from a highly colored Central Florida potable water supply which is used by municipality which has a TTHM concentration in the finished water in excess of the proposed Federal limit. Results indicate that (1) organic polymers are not a significant source of THM precursors, (2) organic polymers, when used as a settling aid after coagulation in Jar tests, are an effective means of filtration for removing THM …

Piperylene concentrate is a complex mixture of 5-carbon unsaturated hydrocarbons obtained as a by-product when naphtha or gas oils are cracked. The major component in this mixture is 1,3-pentadiene. During the course of this study, a number of trials, utilizing liquid phase reaction conditions, were made to investigate the geometric isomerization of 1,3-pentadiene and its separation from the piperylene concentrate. Isomerization was accomplished employing catalytic amounts of iodine at temperatures ranging from 0°C to reflux. Using this method, the maximum amount of trans-1,3-pentadiene obtained was 70% as compared to 51% in the piperylene concentrate. Recovery of the product was 90%, …

The reproductive biology of the Florida east coast terrapin, Malalemys terrapin tequesta was studied during 1977-1978 at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Brevard County, Florida. Mating occurred in small canals and ditches during late march and April. Terrapins exhibited a poorly developed courtship behavior system: this was attributed to the relative isolation of the species due to its brackish water habitat. Nesting occurred on dike roads, rather than on sand dunes as reported for other races of Malaclemys. Air temperature was the most important factor controlling nesting activity. One to three clutches were laid each year. Malaclemys appeared to …
