The Effects Of Variations In The Excitation Parameters Of Blast Waves On The High Frequency Response Of Circular Rings, Paul John Mirabella Jan 1974

The Effects Of Variations In The Excitation Parameters Of Blast Waves On The High Frequency Response Of Circular Rings, Paul John Mirabella

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The high frequency response of a circular ring of rectangular cross section interior to a conical shell excited by a blast wave is examined. The ring supports a rigidly attached mass during excitation. It is hypothesized that the response is a function of the four excitation parameters which characterize the loading. These are: peak reflected pressure; characteristic time (pulse duration); wave engulfment time; and circumferential distribution. These parameters are varied over a range of interest in an effort to ascertain the structural sensitivity to such perturbations. A series of tests sponsored by the Department of the Army and the Martin …

Fugitive Particulate From Highway Construction, Kennard F. Kosky Jan 1974

Fugitive Particulate From Highway Construction, Kennard F. Kosky

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

National ambient air quality standards for particulate matter have been promulgated since April, 1971. While effects of stationary sources on these standards have been examined, little research has been accomplished on the effects of fugitive particulate. This thesis examines the environmental impact of a fugitive dust source, Highway Construction. Using the High-Volume reference method for particulate sampling, the effect of Highway construction was determined. An analysis of concentrations, distance influences, meteorological influences, particle sizes and construction influences is presented. The data obtained from this study indicates the major influence of concentrations is a function of distance and sampling height. Particle …

A Binary Power Generation And Salt Water Distillation Cycle, Edward H. Hardison Jan 1974

A Binary Power Generation And Salt Water Distillation Cycle, Edward H. Hardison

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This research report discusses a binary power generation and salt water distillation cycle that was the subject of a feasibility study at Florida Technological University. The thermodynamic equations are derived and the results of a parametric study to determine optimum fluid properties is presented. This cycle produces power at efficiencies significantly higher than that of conventional cycles and at the same time produces a significant amount of fresh water. The efficiency is maintained even at the high turbine outlet temperature necessary to produce fresh water. The important quantities in considering they cycle efficiency and the fresh water production are the …

Electromagnetic Fields In Water Treatment, Robert H. Fagan Jan 1974

Electromagnetic Fields In Water Treatment, Robert H. Fagan

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Properties and characteristics of colloidal systems are reviewed with a discussion of colloid systems to be found in natural and wastewaters. Current electric and magnetic field theory are reviewed and summarized to provide practical application of the theory to engineering problems in the environmental field. Literature of colloidal reactions to electrical and magnetic fields is discussed and reviewed to ascertain areas of potential application of electric and magnetic phenomena to natural and wastewater treatment systems having objectionable colloid suspensions. It is concluded that application of electrical fields (electrophoresis) does not currently hold much promise for practical applications in water treatment …

Reduced Third Order Intermodulation Distortion Utilizing A Push-Pull Class C Vhf Transistorized Amplifier, Norman B. Mosher Jan 1974

Reduced Third Order Intermodulation Distortion Utilizing A Push-Pull Class C Vhf Transistorized Amplifier, Norman B. Mosher

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

In a transistorized push-pull amplifier, third order intermodulation distortion was effectively reduced at VHF frequencies with an output power of two watt. The non-linear distortion of the amplifier is modeled using a power series. The resulting expression is used as the basis for choosing the push-pull configuration to reduce the third order intermodulation distortion. The amplifier was built and tested, and the experimental results compare favorably with the theoretical results. The level of the third order intermodulation distortion is found to be at least 30 dB below the interfering signal level.

A Simulation Study Of Guest Procedures In A Resort Hotel Complex, Bradley Barraclough Jan 1974

A Simulation Study Of Guest Procedures In A Resort Hotel Complex, Bradley Barraclough

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

At this time there is an increasing emphasis in Florida on developing large, multipurpose complexes which include shopping, entertainment, and accommodations for tourists. In all cases a major design problem is people transportation. For best efficiency the primary mode of transportation, the car, must be exchanged for other people movers within the complex, which will afford more security, flexibility, and better movement of people to their ultimate destination. Economically speaking, this would not only conserve fuel, but would allow consolidation of automobile parking into a less desirable area and the grouping of facilities for more shopping and recreation convenience. An …

A Design Report On A Servo Controlled Inertial Sensor Test Fixture, James B. Dowdle Jan 1974

A Design Report On A Servo Controlled Inertial Sensor Test Fixture, James B. Dowdle

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This report discusses the design of a servo controlled positioning system for remote control positioning of inertial sensors while under high acceleration test in a centrifuge. A rotating fixture and an electronic control panel was built for this purpose, with two modes of operation. The fixture can be positioned with an accuracy of 0.05 degrees and a resolution of 0.01 degrees, or it can be maintained in a constant velocity mode at rates from 1 to 16 degrees per second. The velocity loop was implemented as a phase locked loop, and the command rate is entered as a frequency - …

Development Of A Dme Simulator, Robert W. Brown Jan 1974

Development Of A Dme Simulator, Robert W. Brown

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This report summarizes the design of a DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) simulator to be used in the testing of an Area Navigation System. The purpose of the simulator is to generate a signal representing an aircraft's distance from a ground station. This information is in the form of two pulses whose separation represents that elapsed transmission time for an aircraft to receive a reply from the ground station to an interrogation by the aircraft. The pulse spacing must be selectable as fixed distances for static tests and as distance changing at a constant rate to simulate flying to or from …

A System Dynamics Model To Test Urban Transportation Policy Alternatives, John Paul Burtle

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This study investigates the structure of urban transportation systems, the bases of commuter mode selection, and the effects of alternate transportation system management policies. The study was based on the hypothesis that changes in transportation system management policies are possible which will significantly increase the demand for public transportation in urban areas.

Image Analysis And Improvement Of A Point Light Source Visual Flight Simulator, Steve K. Butrimas Jan 1974

Image Analysis And Improvement Of A Point Light Source Visual Flight Simulator, Steve K. Butrimas

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

It has long been desired to simulate a non-preprogrammed controllable visual scene of the real world in a limited area for the purpose of training, in particular for aviation training. There presently exists a point light source projection system designed to accomplish this, however due to physical limitations, the display image, as compared to the corresponding real world scene which is being simulated, is somewhat distorted and limited. This point light source system is analyzed to determine the distortions and deviations from reality and methods are proposed to improve the display by minimizing the distortions and deviations.

A Special Purpose Modem Design, William Lester Schulte Jan 1974

A Special Purpose Modem Design, William Lester Schulte

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A special purpose modem has been designed to fill the interface requirements peculiar to RCA's DatawayTmk hotel/motel data management system. The modem interface operates on dedicated telephone quality wiring over distances up to 4000 feet using frequency shift keying. A data rate of 2880 bits per second is achieved through the interface. This report discussed the requirements of the interface and details the worst case design of the modem transmitter and receiver sections. The approach used relies heavily upon the use of digital logic circuitry in the modulation and demodulation of the FSK signals.
