Relationship Between Self-Development, Mentorship, And Senior Military Officer Moral Judgment, Garry Thompson

Dissertations

Despite a renewed emphasis on ethics programs across the Department of Defense (DOD) since 2007, the number of senior officer ethical failures increased by 13% from 2015 to 2017 (Copp, 2017). If the trend of ethical failures and misconduct continue, the military faces a further decline in public confidence (DoDOIG, 2017). The 2017 DOD Inspector General report noted the trend of senior leader ethical failures might foster negative public perceptions regarding military leader’s overall dedication, sacrifice, ethics, and character (DoDOIG, 2017).

Female Student Perceptions Of Factors That Influence Persistence In Male-Dominated Community College Career And Technical Education Science, Technology, Engineering, And Math Programs, Valeria Williams

Dissertations

The number of males enrolled in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs outnumber female counterparts (Wang & Degol, 2017). The disparity is even greater in persistence rates for STEM related fields (Glass, Sassler, Levitte & Michelmore, 2013). The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of females enrolled in traditionally male-dominated programs of study, specifically in the areas of STEM in community and junior colleges, to determine factors that influence persistence.

Although previous research exists focusing on women in STEM, most studies explore the barriers women face (Ong, Wright, Espinosa, & Orfield, 2011). The findings from previous …

A Market Analysis Of Pay Rates For New Graduate Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Zachary Halliwell

Doctoral Projects

The profession of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) is a thriving occupation. In their national Occupational Outlook Handbook, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (U.S. Department of Labor, 2018), reported the national market for CRNAs is predicted to continue its steady growth through 2026. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) provides numerous statistics, as previously mentioned, on their website. However, the stats available include CRNAs of varying experience levels. The Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES) has a few statistics, online, regarding the market for CRNAs. The data provided by MDES, while appreciated, is lacking in numerical significance, given the minuscule …

Analysis Of S&P 500 Sector Etfs, John Haire

Honors Theses

Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) are a diversified pool of assets that trade on an exchange and track an index. Tracking error is the difference between a portfolio's returns and the benchmark or index it was meant to mimic. Investors want the Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) to track the benchmark very closely or have the tracking error as low as possible. This paper looks at the tracking errors of different S&P sector ETFs by using the average absolute differences in monthly returns between the ETF and its benchmark index. The results indicate that the Technology and Real Estate sectors have the …

Promoting Workplace Health Using Wearable Technology: A Mixed Methods Study In A Nonprofit Organization, Mitchell Tarver

Dissertations

Despite efforts to improve the designs and benefits of workplace wellness programs (WWPs), there are two major problems preventing employers from optimizing the human capital of their employees: (a) many WWPs are limited and do not include an exercise component, which increases the potential for chronic health conditions; and (b) more than 50% of employees are reluctant to participate in WWPs due to the common barriers of time, convenience, and location. A lack of physical activity is a problem because studies have shown that chronic conditions increase rates of absenteeism and presenteeism, both of which increase productivity loss. Additionally, low …

Supervisor-Subordinate Conflict Negotiation: Examining The Core Concerns In Light Of Communication Accommodation And Gender Roles, Piyawan Charoensap-Kelly

Dissertations

This quasi-experimental study examined a supervisor-subordinate negotiation of an emotion-laden conflict from the lens of the core concerns framework, communication accommodation theory, and gender roles research. Results empirically support CCF that, by accommodating or attending to the employees’ core concerns, managers can stimulate employees’ positive emotion and integrative intention. However, under- and overaccommodating the core concerns can lead to distributive intention. Additionally, the employees’ perception of manager goodwill can strengthen or attenuate the positive effect of core concerns accommodativeness on outcome variables especially for male managers. Thus, moderate accommodation is recommended for male managers. For female managers, the results show …
