The “end of affirmative action” is the beginning of this story. In Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard (SFFA), the Supreme Court struck a near fatal blow to race-consciousness. Many institutions have since pivoted to “race neutral alternatives.” This is a natural turn. But one that faces immediate headwinds.

The same entities that demanded Harvard pursue racial diversity through colorblind means have sued public high schools for doing just that. This paper provides an overview of the manufacturing work experience of different racial groups. Our goal is to lend support to “middle-out” policy responses that seek to promote greater economic opportunity across the country through targeted sector growth, including manufacturing, while also bringing together people of all races in support of manufacturing regeneration. By pinpointing persistent inequities in U.S. manufacturing, we hope to embolden policy responses that ensure that as the manufacturing sector rebounds and continues to evolve, its high-paying, good-quality jobs are also more inclusive of workers of color.

The purpose of this research is to explore the possibility of Moral Injury (MI) in police officers of color. This is a topic that is steeped in stigma and cultural dynamics, both for the community of police and communities of color. The aim is to add to the existing research on MI and how it may impact those who occupy dual special populations. The study approached targeted police advocacy organizations of color for recruitment nationwide. This report speaks to the current state of housing for Latinos in the Commonwealth; and it’s not great. Areas where Latinos still face inequities are compounded in a way that directly impacts access to housing and thus, ability to build generational wealth, or at the very least housing stability. We have solutions to these issues, like rent control, transfer fees, zoning changes, and even tax credits. Thirty-five states have enacted critical race theory bans at the level of elementary and secondary public education, and seven states have extended these to the university level. One way to resist these attempts to repress a healthy democracy by whitewashing history is through a pedagogy of antiracism, including literary works. However, given that not every criminal case has forensic evidence that is available or admissible, the reliance on eyewitness accounts conjures questions about believability. In this dissertation, I observe how white allyship has been (re)constructed in media by analyzing its representations on mainstream television amidst peak moments of racial reckoning in the United States. In light of heightened demands for antiracist solidarity, I interrogate how such popular texts contribute to gaps between the theory and practice of allyship within the white imaginary. This study focused on the harassment, maltreatment, and brutality of African Americans by police officers. The recent widespread condemnation and social justice protests in response to incidents of police brutality point to historical injustices inherent to the culture of policing. Slavery provides the overarching backdrop; however, Jim Crow laws cultivated the structural adaptations necessary to fulfill segregation between African Americans and Whites. The American policing model, which evolved from slave patrols to public entities, continued as an apparatus in the marginalization and disenfranchisement of African Americans. Colorful Relations: How Race Conditions The Relationship Between Sexual Orientation And Willingness To Interracially Date, Emily Sabisch

The present study examines how sexual orientation impacts willingness to interracially date; additionally, this study investigates if race conditions this relationship. Using data from Interracialdating.com, a pool of 2,215 respondents is collected. The data includes only those who are single and have no children currently but desire children. Logistic regression is utilized to analyze the odds of the respondent’s willingness to date either Asian or Black individuals. The findings indicate that a queer person is less willing than straight respondents to date both Asian and Black individuals when controlling for possible redundant variables. Relationships Between White Psychology Trainees’ Multicultural Competence And Racial Affect In The Pandemic, Daniella L. Colb

In this dissertation, I used an exploratory research approach to examine White psychology trainees’ affective responses to race-related material and how they relate to trainees’ self-perceived levels of multicultural competence amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. Participants completed self-report instruments about their experiences and identities, their affective responses to racial content, and their grasp of facets of multicultural competence. Significant correlations were found between affective responses—specifically White guilt and negation—and multicultural competence. The relationship found between White guilt and multicultural competence may speak to the power of guilt to motivate trainees’ pursuit of …

This paper proposes a five-part empirical typology of interconnections of race and class. We describe the mechanisms whereby (1) race is a form of class relation; (2) race relations and class relations reciprocally affect each other; (3) race acts as a sorting mechanism into class locations; (4) race acts as a mediating linkage to class locations; and (5) race interacts with class in determining other outcomes. Regional And Socioeconomic Factors Impacting Pediatric Victims Of Cranial Gunshot Wounds: Analysis Of The Kids’ Inpatient Database (Kid), Michael Melhem, Elise Yoon, Matthew Brennan, Enoch Kim, Yasmeen Berry, Michael Cools, Leopold Arko

Introduction

Injury by firearms among the pediatric population is a growing concern in the United States. This paper investigates demographic factors associated with pediatric cranial gunshot wounds (GSW).

Methods

A query of the KID databases from 1997-2019 was run for cranial GSW and craniotomy ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes. ANOVA and chi-squared tests were performed to analyze demographics and outcomes by injury type.

Results

Our query resulted in 2990 cranial GSW patients; 86.1% were male. Mean age was 16.48 years; accidental victims were the youngest and intentional the oldest (14.88±5.2, 17.2±2.3, p< 0.001). Blacks, Hispanics, and Asian-Pacific-Islanders (minorities) were most commonly victims of assault; Whites were most commonly victims of intentional GSW (p< 0.001). Victims mostly had Medicaid except for intentional victims who were more likely to have private insurance (p< 0.001). Assault was the predominant injury type in all regions, especially in the West (33.7%). The South had the most accidental (51.9%) and intentional (44.6%) injuries. In 1997 and 2019 the predominant GSW type was accidental; in all other years assault predominated. Accidental victims were most likely to undergo craniotomy and intentional were least likely (p< 0.001). Inpatient mortality was 46.4% with intentional victims having the highest rate (68.6%) then undetermined (60.3%) and law enforcement-related (57.7%).
