Eece 702 Social Foundations Of Early Childhood Education, Andrew Aprile
Open Educational Resources
This course is an introduction to the social, historical, and philosophical foundations of early childhood education in the United States. Through critical analysis of required reading, class discussion, and writing, we will explore how the dynamics of schooling relate to larger social, cultural, economic, political and historical forces. Using a sociocultural lens, this course will investigate the ways that social class, race, gender, family, community, language, ability, ethnicity, immigration, and sexuality intersect and impact schools, student outcomes, and policies surrounding early childhood and childhood education. This course places emphasis on the separate and combined effects of race and class within …

Q2S Enhancing Pedagogy
This lesson plan was created after completing and attending the ACUE modules and workshops as an ACUE student, enrolled in, Effective Teaching Practices: Cohort B, Fall 2019 – Spring 2020. The purpose of this lesson plan is to provide knowledge to educators with ways to help students navigate a course using an effective and well-structured syllabus. Students rely heavily on syllabus for feedback and guidance. Imagine being stranded on an island, what would you do? Who would you call? Several people would begin searching for help and guidance. If a map to getting off the island became available, what should …

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Positioning the syllabus as a key artifact in the modern academy, one that encapsulates many elements of intellectual, scholarly, social, cultural, political, and institutional contexts in which it is enmeshed, we offer in this special issue of Syllabus a set of provocations on the syllabus and its many roles. Including perspectives from full-time and part-time faculty, graduate students, and librarians, the issue offers a multifaceted take on how the syllabus is presently used and might be reimagined.
Adjusting The Late Policy: Using Smaller Intervals For Grading Deductions, Brandon Bosch
Adjusting The Late Policy: Using Smaller Intervals For Grading Deductions, Brandon Bosch
Department of Sociology: Faculty Publications
Most late policies involve some type of initial large deduction when an assignment is late, followed by subsequent deductions around a certain interval. In many cases, instructors will select 24 hours as their interval. While this type of late policy is common, it can be criticized for being too punitive. Moreover, large intervals can encourage students to hold on to their assignments longer than necessary, increasing the possibility that students receive a second large deduction. To address some of these issues, I share my experience of using one-point deductions for each hour an assignment is late.

Q2S Enhancing Pedagogy
The Quarter-to-Semester transition at CSUSB brought a number of challenges for many courses or course series. One of those included the math requirement for Liberal Studies series, Math 30x courses. The challenge here is that the 30x series includes four courses, yet the transition to semesters will yield three courses. In the Fall of 2020, the fourth 2-unit course in the series, Math 308 (Problem Solving Through Theory and Practice), will no longer be offered. Instead, it will be embedded into the first three courses. Students beginning the series after Fall 2019, will not have enough time to complete the …

Q2S Enhancing Pedagogy
This syllabus was written in response to the FLC symposium led by Jessica Luck. It draws on elements I have previously used in teaching the large lecture 170—Studies in Literature—and adapts those elements to address the issues raised in Q2S Enhanced Pedagogy discussions, particularly to develop best practices, and to include a creative component for a new course offering which combines analysis with creative practice.

-- SYLLABUS NOTICE FOR LABORATORY COURSES -- REPRODUCTIVE
HAZARDS Reproductive hazards are substances or agents that may affect the reproductive health of women or men or the ability of couples to have healthy children. Efforts have been made to eliminate the use of known reproductive hazards in our labs. However, the vast majority of laboratory chemicals have never been tested by the manufacturer or by any governmental agency. As a result, their effect on a developing fetus is unknown; female students must assume that each chemical used in this lab presents a hazard to an unborn child. If you are …

Abstract
In the 2018-2019 revision of the American Bar Association (ABA) Standards and Rules of Procedure for Approval of Law Schools, the ABA further relaxed the requirements relating to distance education in J.D. programs. However, outside of a handful of schools that have received permission to teach J.D. courses almost entirely online, most experiments in distance legal education have occurred in post-graduate (i.e. post-J.D.) programs: LL.M. degrees, and various graduate certificates and Master’s degrees in law-related subjects. These programs can be taught completely online without requiring special ABA permission.
