This paper reflects a synopsis of the work in person/family-centered planning representative of its implementation across a variety of disability service systems, including prisons, schools, community-based service agencies and institutional settings. The authors who have contributed to this paper have direct experience in the field working with individuals who have disability labels of severe and persistent mental illness, mental retardation and developmental disabilities, and learning disabilities. It is their hope that this paper will serve to guide the emerging best practice in the design and delivery of person-centered service delivery systems.

[Excerpt] Patsy Sellen has worked at Cornell for 30 years and is saying "it is time to go" on January 3, 2007.

Patsy started in Dairy Herd Records in 1976, from there moving to the Hotel School in 1979, Human Ecology in 1987, and finally ILR. She has worked in Students Services since February 2001 and says ILR has been a perfect place to end her Cornell career.

Patsy will have her retirement filled with gardening, grandchildren and volunteering – and maybe working some time in to travel with her husband.

How Does Employee Involvement Stack Up? The Effects Of Human Resource Management Policies On Performance In A Retail Firm, Derek C. Jones, Panu Kalmi, Antti Kauhanen

Working Papers

By assembling and analyzing new panel data, we investigate the impact of innovative human resource management (HRM) practices on performance for a retail firm. Monthly financial and performance data for 2001-2003, for all (47) units, are combined with information for crucial aspects of HRM environments obtained from employee surveys and multiple case visits. Our rich data include measures of the operating environment, important dimensions of core inputs and output is measured as value added. Augmented production functions, including specifications with both establishment and manager fixed effects, are estimated. Adaptive Guidance: Effects On Self-Regulated Learning In Technology-Based Training, Bradford S. Bell, Adam Kanar, Xiangmin Liu, Jane Forman, Mila Singh

CAHRS Working Paper Series

Guidance provides trainees with the information necessary to make effective use of the learner control inherent in technology-based training, but also allows them to retain a sense of control over their learning (Bell & Kozlowski, 2002). One challenge, however, is determining how much learner control, or autonomy, to build into the guidance strategy. We examined the effects of alternative forms of guidance (autonomy supportive vs. controlling) on trainees’ learning and performance, and examined trainees’ cognitive ability and motivation to learn as potential moderators of these effects.
