This paper shall review the major provisions of the GATT with respect to the Multilateral Agreements on Trade in Goods only and the likely implications for Nigeria. The review of the General Agreement on Trade in Services and the Agreement on Trade - Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights shall be covered in another exercise. The history of commerce between early national Mexico and the United States remains largely untold due to the lack of good serial data. Mexican export and import figures are neither consistent nor comprehensive; on the U.S. side, overland exports from the United States to Mexico went unrecorded until 1893. Maritime trade statistics, collected by the U.S. Treasury from 1824 onward, reveal that Mexico traded silver- mostly specie and some bullion- for manufactured cloth, for wheat flour coming through New Orleans, and for raw cotton for the Mexican textile industry, which tariffs enacted by Mexico in 1829, 1837, and 1842-1843 attempted …

We show that a market access requirement (MAR) can increase competition and reduces prices if a properly designed subsidy scheme is used to enforce the requirement. This is in contrast to most of the recent literature which has generally concluded that MARs are unambiguously anticompetitive. Our analysis underscores the importance of proper targeting and shows that it is sensitive to the composition of firms within an industry.

In an era where economic policy must be increasingly fashioned in global terms, the economies of Indigenous Nations in present-day Canada and the United States remain isolated from international commerce.These nations--once independent, now governed by a supervising state --in most cases cannot be said to enjoy evenan unhindered access to commerce within the states that surround them. Indeed, the insularity of the North American Indigenous Nations is a fundamental feature of their existence and, too, a formidable barrier to these nations' ability to establish vibrant and diversified economies.
