How A Latecomer Company Used It To Redeploy Slack Resources, Wenyu Du, Shan L. Pan, Jinsong Huang
How A Latecomer Company Used It To Redeploy Slack Resources, Wenyu Du, Shan L. Pan, Jinsong Huang
Humayun Zafar
Many companies slow in adopting modern enterprise systems are catching up. An important agenda of CIOs of these latecomer companies is to redeploy slack resources into productive use. IS research, however, has not previously studied how to use IT to redeploy slack resources. Based on an in-depth case study of the digital transformation completed by a latecomer - XCMG, the largest construction machinery manufacturer in China - we derive a four-phase process model of IT-enabled slack redeployment and provide six recommendations for CIOs. These findings and recommendations are timely because, as the economy slows, slack resources are becoming commonplace in …
Presidential Rhetoric And The Federal Reserve, C. Damien Arthur
Presidential Rhetoric And The Federal Reserve, C. Damien Arthur
C. Damien Arthur
Presidents persistently use their rhetoric as a mechanism of influence over salient policies. As the economy has become more salient, presidents have tried to gain a semblance of control over its direction and robustness. Yet, there exists no substantial research regarding whether the rhetoric is influential with the most important economic actors such as the Federal Reserve. Assessing whether presidential cues and signals shape the Fed’s economic behavior provides an assessment of rhetoric’s effect. Utilizing the economic speeches from D.D. Eisenhower through B.H. Obama this paper questions whether the Fed’s behavior modeled what the presidents wanted. Presidents have increased their …
Revisiting Marketing As Constructive Engagement: Linking Policies And Managerial Practices, Clifford J. Shultz
Revisiting Marketing As Constructive Engagement: Linking Policies And Managerial Practices, Clifford J. Shultz
Clifford J Shultz
Policies that initiate or support responsible micromarketing institutions and practices can be some of the most important catalysts to socioeconomic development and sustainable peace and prosperity, particularly in distressed or devastated political economies. Such polices and the accordant positive marketing forces might be considered a form of constructive engagement. The consideration of constructive engagement, including the idea that managerial marketing can be complementary to macromarketing, is gaining currency among some macromarketers, and is explored in this presentation. The author discusses some evolving successful cases from fieldwork in developing, devastated, transitioning and/or recovering economies.

The paper below largely is an extract of the testimonial filed by the authors to the Secretary of the ITC in response to the Notice on the Federal Register dated August 29, 2013 titled Trade, Investment, and Industrial Policies in India: Effects on the U.S. Economy. Where required, the paper also draws from the written submissions that the authors made to the United States Trade Representative’s (hereinafter, USTR) office on the related question of whether India deny adequate and effective protection of intellectual property rights or deny fair and equitable market access to U.S. persons who rely on intellectual property …

Evaluation Of Regional Economy Through An Embedded Econometric-Interindustry Model, Ashkan Masouman, Charles Harvie
Evaluation Of Regional Economy Through An Embedded Econometric-Interindustry Model, Ashkan Masouman, Charles Harvie
Ashkan Masouman
Since incorporating interindustry analysis into econometric framework was pioneered some 40 years ago (Glickman, 1977), there has been a growing number of studies in the literature on application of the integrated framework at the subnational level. The integrated models in the literature have appeared in different forms with respect to the strategy and the structure, through which input-output (IO) and econometric are merged. The objective of the integrated framework is to capitalize on the merits of both component models, namely, an exhaustive interindustry analysis and a dynamic reflection of economic variables. This paper presents an attempt to extend and apply …
Clinical Legal Education & Access To Justice: Conflicts, Interests, & Evolution, Margaret B. Drew, Andrew P. Morriss
Clinical Legal Education & Access To Justice: Conflicts, Interests, & Evolution, Margaret B. Drew, Andrew P. Morriss
Andrew P. Morriss
The explosive growth in the number of law school clinics over the last 50 years began with an individual client focus as a core component. This contributed to reducing unmet legal needs in substantive areas such as landlord-tenant, family, consumer and other areas. These service clinics accomplished the dual purpose of training students in the day-to-day challenges of practice while reducing the number of unrepresented poor. In recent years, however, the trend has been to broaden the law school clinical experience beyond individual representation and preparation for law firm practice. So-called “impact” clinics typically address systemic change without significant individual …

Why You Should Care About The Threatened Middle Class, Jill Littrell, Fred Brooks, Jan Ivery, Mary Ohmer
Why You Should Care About The Threatened Middle Class, Jill Littrell, Fred Brooks, Jan Ivery, Mary Ohmer
jill l littrell Dr.
In the last two decades, the income and security of the individual middle class worker has declined and the gap between the middle class and the wealthy has widened. We explain how this is bad for democracy, the economy, and the aggregate health of the nation. We examine the governmental policies and interventions that increased the middle class following the depression and maintained its vigor through the post-World War II period. The impetus for these changes in governmental policies in the 1930s was to end the Great Depression. We pose the question of whether a nation can recover from a …
Idaho State Budgeting: Finding The “New Normal”, Dick Kinney
Idaho State Budgeting: Finding The “New Normal”, Dick Kinney
Richard Kinney
In 2009 and 2010, when Idaho policymakers experienced major economic problems and scarcer revenues, they approved major spending reductions. More recently, as the state’s economy and revenues have been improving, policymakers have sought to establish the “new normal” for Idaho state budgeting. To discern what this new normal may entail, this paper examines the governor’s budget recommendations and the legislature’s appropriation actions for Fiscal Year 2013. It briefly describes Idaho’s people, politics, and budgeting process. After discussing developments in Idaho’s economy and General Fund revenues, it reports on the governor’s budget recommendations and the legislature’s actions. It then considers impacts …

The Bedridden Queen Money!, John Samuel Cyrus Mr
John Samuel Cyrus Mr
During the past few decades, macro-economic activities had been rallied around glamorous industrial and technology oriented service sectors. Recent recession that began in 2008 is still continuing and the little improvement in 2009 was nothing but the fluctuation in the ICU monitor, which was connected to the bedridden queen Money. Many nations GDP growth rate has been continually falling and unemployment rates are continually rising. The American economy is in a complete mess, no remedies are found yet for European economic sovereign debt crisis, and the Asian economy fast fading due to India’s low GDP and the slide in Rupee; …
