It is the view of many librarians that the profession faces relevance issues in the research community, among academics. The perception, and perhaps the reality, is that scholars are standoffish when it comes to contacting librarians about their research and taking advantage of the expertise librarians possess. If this is the case, it may be due to the lack of librarian experience with the specific disciplines in which the respective faculty members are publishing, or as an academic/scholar. The topic of academic/research librarians with subject doctorates is largely unexplored in the literature, despite recent efforts to recruit them. Based on survey data gathered from non- LIS doctorate holders currently working in U.S. and Canadian academic/research libraries, this article highlights data and trends relating to these librarians, focusing on their demographic profile, educational background, paths into librarianship, and range of positions. It is important not only to provide vital information to the academic/research library community about these librarians as a distinct and potentially sought-after group but also to communicate their experiences to advanced-degree holders considering a career in librarianship.

Creating an Institutional Repository from scratch creates a multitude of both opportunities and pitfalls in establishment of workflow, content creation, outreach and marketing policies, and stakeholder support. Nova Southeastern University’s Digital Commons based repository, NSUWorks, completed its first year in February 2015. During this session, the triumphs and tribulations of the first year will be discussed, along with future plans in order to give attendees a glimpse into one particular IR experience. Both librarianship and composition have been shaken by recent developments in higher education. In libraries ebooks and online databases threaten the traditional "library as warehouse model," while in composition, studies like The Citation Project show that students are not learning how to incorporate sources into their own writing effectively. This dissertation examines the disciplinary origins and current status of information literacy and makes a case for increased collaboration between Writing Studies and librarians and the eventual emergence of information literacy as a discipline in its own right. White Estate Branch Office to provide the most extensive collection of Adventist-related resources in the world, both physically and digitally. An introduction to the background, collections, and activities of CAR is presented. Of particular interest are the digitization projects.

Librarians in America and Europe find that social scientists rely heavily on journal articles, specialized data, and feedback from colleagues in directing their research. This project uses 21 ethnographic interviews with librarians, students, and faculty at “Atameken University” in post-Soviet Kazakhstan to explore how social scientists adjust such research habits to a context of distant information sources and limited access. By developing technological adaptations to the local context, expatriate scholars can surmount most barriers to access—and yet librarians are then less able to effectively support research.
