Effective collaboration between archives and technical services can increase the discoverability of special collection materials. Archivists at the University of Dayton Libraries began using Archive-It to capture websites relevant to their collecting policies in 2015. However, the collections were only made available to users from the University of Dayton page on the Archive-It website. Content was isolated in a separate platform and was not promoted to users. Working together, the team of archivists and technical services librarians incorporated the web archive collections into the Libraries’ EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) discovery layer. Effective collaboration between archives and technical services increases the discoverability of special collection materials. Archivists at a medium-sized institution had been using Archive-It to collect websites for a few years, but the information was isolated in a separate platform and wasn't effectively marketed to users. Working together, the team of archivists and technical services librarians incorporated the website collections into the discovery layer. Metadata was added at the seed level and indexed on a single, user-friendly platform. Attendees learned about implementing digital archive collections and explored how to increase their visibility through marketing.

In 2016, the speakers embarked upon a multi-institutional project to compare print and e-book usage across four Southern California institutions (Claremont Colleges Library, Loyola Marymount University, Pepperdine University, and University of Southern California). The preliminary results of this comparative usage analysis, presented as a poster session at the Charleston Conference, revealed that print books in certain art and architecture classes and subclasses are used over e-books, suggesting “leanings” in format preferences of users.

While this collaborative research project provided provocative insights into art and architecture e-book usage, it also raised important research methods questions related to collaborative analysis using multiple …

Academic library outreach efforts offered in partnership with Student Affairs units can support the whole student as they navigate this ecosystem. This presentation offers one librarian's experience collaborating with Student Affairs units such as health, counseling, and recreation centers. A mental model for this work that draws on the metaphor of organic gardening helps frame the remarks and reflections.

Preservation activities are inherent to the mission of a Special Collections Department, but Preservation units are not always so closely intertwined. Our poster will outline the work that’s being done by the heads of the Libraries’ Preservation Unit and Special Collections’ Collection Management Unit to develop workflows for transfer of materials, resource-sharing, and consultation. With a proliferation of information in the 21st century, new tools are necessary for deriving
meaning from the information in archival repositories and recordkeeping programs. With
embracing distant learning techniques such as data and text mining, and visualization projects
archivists, records managers, and researchers can learn in a deeper way. Examining archival
tradition and more recent Archives 2.0 initiatives, this essay posits that this meaningful learning
best occurs by embracing new technology. Only then will the ideals of interactivity and
decentralized authority be realized.

This report describes the research needs and practices of nine Asian Studies scholars at Trinity University, a private liberal arts college in San Antonio, Texas. Part of a nationwide study coordinated by Ithaka S+R, the report describes scholars’ 1 methods, information needs, and publication practices in order to better align and deliver research support from academic departments, librarians, university administrators, and other stakeholders. The report culminates in predictions on the future of the field, and offers several recommendations to help scholars achieve the future they envision for Asian Studies.

The radical act of replacing a traditional OPAC and ILS with a hosted library services platform (LSP) and web-scale discovery (WSD) system creates the impetus for libraries to rethink core workflows and practices. Both of these tools have the potential to greatly improve access to library collections and enhance user experience, but only if the implementation is a collaborative effort between different stakeholders, technical experts and subject librarians, grounded in a thoughtful selection process that emphasizes user needs. Purpose This paper describes how a course-integrated blog was used to facilitate the learning of information literacy skills. It also reports on how the effectiveness of the blog was evaluated. Design/methodology/approach The blog was made the centerpiece of library support offered to a first-year politics course. With the support of the faculty member involved, students were required to post answers to weekly library research skills questions posted to the blog. The quality of student responses was examined using a simple assessment rubric. Also, a survey was administered to students to determine perceived usefulness. With the rising costs of tuition and textbooks, Open Educational Resources (OERs) are becoming increasingly important. The university library, in collaboration with faculty, is a natural leader of OER initiatives at institutions of higher education. Cleveland State University’s Michael Schwartz Library embraced this leadership role by assisting a faculty member with developing an OER, which involved balancing the workload between librarians and the faculty member, determining successful modes of communication, taking advantage of graphic design skills, and more. The success of this initial collaboration has led the Library to expand its support of OER initiatives on campus.

After re-starting a collaborative partnership between the library and writing center at wright state university, the librarians and writing center staff involved wanted to compare data with other existing collaborations. With a limited amount of data available in current literature, they conducted an e-mail survey of librarians, writing center staff, and writing tutoring services staff from across the country. This survey found that the majority of participants had a writing center on campus and that around two-thirds of respondents had an existing partnership.
