Academic libraries are embracing the Maker Movement and 3D printing is the showpiece of the new types of resources libraries are providing as the landscape of scholarly and intellectual property changes. Libraries continue to provision access to emerging and expensive technologies; except now students and faculty on campus need different tools. Alongside traditional library resources like books and online databases, libraries are investing in equipment like 3D printers, 3D scanners, laser cutters, and other related technologies. The BFA Exhibition is the culminating activity for students enrolled in the Art Department's BFA Visual Art, BFA Illustration, and BFA Art Education. Each semester the works are on display in the Visual Arts Center. Beginning in 2014, images from the exhibition were included in ScholarWorks, giving students a permanent link to their work. The details and complexities involved in creating this collection are described. This collection can be a model to create more unique pages in ScholarWorks which represent the student and faculty scholarship at Boise State University.

3d Printing Collections In Institutional Repositories, Amber Sherman

Many libraries are investing in 3D printers and are sharing their creations on 3rd party websites. While sites like Thingiverse, Sketchfab, and Tinkercad provide an easy forum for sharing 3D printing files, institutional repositories of academic libraries are also well positioned to disseminate this work. This Snapshot Session will demonstrate how Albertsons Library at Boise State University uses the Digital Commons institutional repository platform to showcase the 3D printing designs of faculty, staff, and students with a 3D printing collection.
