Have you ever wondered about the stories behind the public art in your library? Every object has the potential to tell a story—the paintings, the sculpture, the furniture, and the building itself. At Musselman Library, Gettysburg College, we use QR codes as the technical means to satisfy the natural curiosity of our patrons. Historical information already available in our Special Collections and College Archives was repurposed for the mobile-friendly environment. The artiFACTS project proved to be simple, scalable, and a great opportunity for collaboration. When an education professor and a reference librarian sought to improve the quality of undergraduate student research, their partnership led to a new focus on assessing the research process in addition to the product. In this study, we reflect on our collaborative experience introducing information literacy as the foundation for undergraduate teacher education research. We examine the outcomes of this collaboration, focusing on the assessment of the process. Using a mixed methods approach, we found that direct instruction supporting effective research strategies positively impacted student projects. Purpose – The aim of this paper is to identify resources essential gerontology (aging studies) resources and liaison strategies that provide guidance for academic librarians working with faculty and students in this highly interdisciplinary field.

Design/methodology/approach – A convenience sample of gerontology faculty was surveyed to identify important materials, including preferred journals, databases, reference books, and sources of grey literature for gerontology research and teaching. Gerontology faculty information seeking behaviors, including faculty-librarian partnership, were also examined.

Findings – Results confirm that faculty teaching in gerontology use a wide variety of resources in their teaching and research. Faculty identified frequently used …

The Digital Initiatives at Rhode Island College (RIC) began a project in the spring of 2013 to begin creating eBook files from content already collected as PDF files in the RIC Digital Commons. The process of investigating strategies and exploring file formats provided a background in digital publishing that should prove valuable in future endeavors. In addition, a new method for streamlining workflow was developed that will increase effectiveness. This article explores the process and explores the outcomes of the conversion process.

In this article, the authors describe a grassroots model for research support and explore the success and evolving directions of this model based on three iterative needs assessments administered by the Librarian and Archivist Research Support Network (LARSN) Steering Committee at The University of Western Ontario. Academic libraries are increasingly collecting e-books, but little research has investigated how students use e-books compared to print texts. This study used a prompted think-aloud method to gain an understanding of the information retrieval behavior of students in both formats. Qualitative analysis identified themes that will inform instruction and collection practices.

Content of outreach position announcements posted in College and Research Libraries News from 1970 through 2004 were examined. Ads fell within three broad groups: distance education, multicultural services, and specialized. Overall, outreach positions have been on the rise with the exception of multicultural services librarian positions which have not increased at a stable rate.

For an online credit-bearing course, a team at Bowling Green State University Libraries designed a module around ACRL's Standard Five in order to help students navigate the complexities of using information ethically and legally. Module contents, including readings, discussion questions, assessments and quizzes, may be used as a whole or in pieces as needed. Module readings and activities work equally well online or in the classroom setting and can be easily modified for one-shot library sessions or as part of a larger conversation on academic honesty and correct citing of sources.
