Cecilia Genereux (data management & access/metadata & intellectual access, University of Minnesota Libraries) introduced the session by confessing to a pun intended for her presentation: Alma: To Have and to Hold. The levity quickly shifted into some very detailed analysis of the way the Ex Libris Alma system handled specific types of serials during a migration from Aleph. The University of Minnesota started with Aleph (Ex Libris) in 2002 and moved to Alma on December 26, 2013. Frances McNamara (director, Integrated Library Systems and Administrative and Desktop Systems at University of Chicago), discussed migrating serials data from Horizon to Kulai …

ABSTRACT. Health science librarians experience challenges when partnering with people from other professional backgrounds such as nursing and with people of different ages. In partnering with people of other backgrounds,it is helpful to recognize the changing nature of research skills and the fact that many 21st century college students lack a print-based concept of research. Helping students to succeed in understanding and participating in the research process is more important than ever due to changes in the nursing profession, the sheer mass of scholarly information, and the challenges of searching for information on the world wide web.

Nearby is Western Kentucky University (WKU), which since the early 1900’s (and as various precursor institutions including the Potter School for Young Ladies and later the Western Kentucky State Normal School) has had numerous interactions with the …

With this in mind the library and librarian's role to ensure quality service can take cues from five forms of literacy that reach well beyond information literacy. This poster will identify and discuss five facets of literacy in relation to the University international student: Information literacy, Reading literacy, Media literacy, Technology literacy, and Visual literacy.

The Educational Resources Center (ERC) at Western Kentucky University was searching for ways to shorten the processing time for its collection of textbooks for grades K-12. These textbooks are replaced on a regular rotation with new editions as they are published. The collaborative effort between ERC and the Bibliographic Access Unit streamlined the processing and greatly decreased the time between acquisition and availability to library patrons.
