Lit Jr., Cristian Lucañas, Joanne Langres, Lolita Dolores, Ruby Ana Laude, Merdelyn Caasi-Lit
The Philippine Agricultural Scientist
Samples of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) plants infected with witches’ broom disease were gathered from 13 provinces in the Philippines. Mealybugs were observed to occur in nine out of the 13 cumulative samples. The most predominant among several mealybug species observed was identified as Pseudococcus jackbeardsleyi Gimpel and Miller. P. jackbeardsleyi is not yet known to transmit phytoplasma, especially the one causing cassava witches’ broom (CWB). However, its occurrence in almost 70% of the CWB-infected samples provides circumstantial evidence that it may be related to the spread of the pathogen. This formal report of identification is in support of the …

Volatility Transmission Among Nigeria, Some Selected African And World Equity Markets, Idolor Eseoghene Joseph Ph.D.
International Review of Business and Economics
I examine the extent of volatility transmission, spill-over and contagion among Nigeria, some selected African and world equity markets. Empirical findings indicate the presence of volatility transmission and spill-over among the Nigerian and world equity markets. However, for the Nigerian and African markets, the results show that there is volatility transmission, but no evidence of volatility spill-over. The results were not statistically significant enough to prove the existence of volatility contagion among all the African markets, arising from the recent global financial crisis.

Transmission Of Microsporidium Sp. Between Different Generations Of Crepidopdera Aurata (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), Mustafa Yaman
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Microsporidia are mostly very small, intracellular, spore-forming pathogens classified as Protista and reported in every major group of animals. Insects are one of the most widely distributed hosts for microsporidia. Many entomopathogenic microsporidia cause chronic infections in insects and their effects appear as reduced fertility and pupal weight, reduced fecundity and shortened longevity. Crepidopdera aurata (Coleoptera; Chrysomelidae) is one of the most destructive pests in poplar nurseries. The host-parasite relation in microsporidium infections is of great importance to understand the possibilities to use microsporidia in the host?s biological control. In the present study, the transmission of the microsporidian pathogen Microsporidium …

AIDS is a modern epidemic that has grabbed the forefront of this nation's attention like no other disease in the twentieth century. Despite vigorous medical research and experimentation, the disease remains incurable and ultimately fatal. Protecting the health of the citizens has always been a strong policy of the law. Tort liability for the spread of contagious diseases dates back to the early nineteenth century. Tort liability for sexual transmission of AIDS began to appear in the late 1980s, not long after the appearance of the disease. Based as it was on the tort actions arising from other transmittable diseases, …
Elapsed Time Of Vehicle Acceleration, Jensen Mctighe
Elapsed Time Of Vehicle Acceleration, Jensen Mctighe
Undergraduate Journal of Mathematical Modeling: One + Two
Newton’s Second Law states that force is equal to the mass of an object multiplied by its acceleration. More specifically, force is the mass times the instantaneous change in velocity over time of an object. By rearranging this equation, it can be determined that the time elapsed of the acceleration of an object is equal to the integral of the inverse value of the force relative to change in velocity (dv). In the context of real world application, this method can be used to calculate the time taken for a vehicle to accelerate from its minimum to maximum speed, given …

The Ebola Virus Prevention And Human Rights Implications, Florence Shu-Acquaye
University of Massachusetts Law Review
The Ebola virus and its now infamous 2014 West African outbreak have constituted the deadliest and most terrifying epidemic of recent memory. Not only does the epidemic now carry an already ghastly backdrop in the public mind when discussions around it begin, but, like the AIDS epidemic, cultural practices have contributed to the entrenchment of Ebola in Africa, compounded by weak human rights laws and stigmatization, all of these factors having contributed to the multi-faceted and complex nature of addressing the problem of eliminating this disease in Africa. This article examines the African countries that have been plagued by the …
