The Cumulation Of The Abortion Reform Movement
The Cumulation Of The Abortion Reform Movement
University of Richmond Law Review
We forthwith acknowledge our awareness of the sensitive and emotional nature of the abortion controversy, of the vigorous opposing views, even among physicians, and of the deep and seemingly absolute convictions that the subject inspires. One's philosophy, one's experiences, one's exposure to the raw edges of human existence, one's religious training, one's attitudes toward life and family and their values, and the moral standards one establishes and seeks to observe, are all likely to influence and to color one's thinking and conclusions about abortion.
Practice And Problems Under Nebraska’S New Divorce Laws, Roger C. Henderson
Practice And Problems Under Nebraska’S New Divorce Laws, Roger C. Henderson
Nebraska Law Review
Change inevitably leaves in its wake a certain amount of disruption and uncertainty, and this certainly is no less true where entire statutory schemes are replaced with new codifications. Thus it is that lawyers and judges concerned with dissolution of marriages in Nebraska will experience some discomfort at being uprooted from the old and familiar in dealing with this area of family relations. Once the initial reaction has passed, however, it will be seen that the new law,1 effective July 6, 1972, for the most part changes only the law in the books and leaves the law in practice relatively …
Aquatic Phycomycetes Of Lily Lake, Utah, Hugh M. Rooney, Kent H. Mcknight
Aquatic Phycomycetes Of Lily Lake, Utah, Hugh M. Rooney, Kent H. Mcknight
Great Basin Naturalist
During the ice-free period from May to November on two successive summers water molds were collected on 14 different substrata placed in Lily Lake, a subalpine bog lake in the Uinta Mountains of Utah. Twenty-five collections yielded thirty-four species in 20 genera, 11 families, and 6 orders of aquatic Phycomycetes. Correlation of frequency presence of the species reported with physical and chemical characteristics of the lake showed that the number of species collected increased with an increase in water temperature and a decrease in oxygen content during June to August, reaching a peak in late July. Rhipidium americanum Thaxter (100 …

A New Species Of Soil Mite From Western Colorado (Acari: Cryptostigmata, Pelopidae), Harold G. Higgins, Tyler A. Woolley
Great Basin Naturalist
A new species of soil mite from Hayden, Colorado, is described. This species, Peloptulus tanytrichosus, is the first representative of the genus in North America. The species is described, figured, and compared with P. foveolatus Hammer, 1961. Eight specimens were taken from different habitats, including aspen litter, scrub oak litter, and beneath greasewood and pepper grass.
Flights Of The Western Thatching Ant, Formica Obscuripes Forel, In Nevada (Hymenoptera: Formicidae), William H. Clark, Peter L. Comanor
Flights Of The Western Thatching Ant, Formica Obscuripes Forel, In Nevada (Hymenoptera: Formicidae), William H. Clark, Peter L. Comanor
Great Basin Naturalist
Observations indicate that Formica obscuripes flies earlier in Nevada than in other parts of the country where the flights have been recorded. The alate males are the first to emerge from the nest. These are eventually succeeded by alate females, and finally only females are seen. F. obscuripes flew during periods when air temperatures were 20.5–26.5 C, when relative humidities were about 18%, and when solar input was about 1.35 langleys. Slight winds approaching 3 mph did not keep the ants from flying but may have influenced their direction of flight.
The nests of F. obscuripes observed near Reno differ …

Comments On Two Names In An Early Utah Flora, James L. Reveal
Comments On Two Names In An Early Utah Flora, James L. Reveal
Great Basin Naturalist
Two new varieties described by Durand in 1859 from the Great Salt Lake area of northern Utah are discussed. One, Erysimum asperum var. purshii, is the oldest available name for the western United States variant of the species, while the second name, Acerates decumbens var. erecta, is a synonym of Asclepias asperula. Neither name has been included in botanical reference works nor in monographic studies. One new combination, Erysimum asperum var. amoenum, is proposed for the orange-flowered phase of the species found in southern Colorado and Utah.
A Record Of An Indigo Bunting And A Wintering Say's Phoebe For Northern Utah, Gary L. Worthen
A Record Of An Indigo Bunting And A Wintering Say's Phoebe For Northern Utah, Gary L. Worthen
Great Basin Naturalist
A male indigo bunting (Passerina cyanea) and a female Say's pheobe (Sayornis saya) were taken at Salt Lake City, Utah, on 20 May 1966 and 2 February 1966, respectively. Both birds are the northernmost records for Utah in the season in which they were taken.

Nearctic Desert Sand Dune Orthoptera, Part Xiv. A New Eremopedes (Decticidae), Ernest R. Tinkham
Great Basin Naturalist
A new species, Eremopedes kelsoensis, is described from the Kelso Sand Dunes, San Bernardino Co., California, with notes on its biology, song, host plants, desert distribution, orthopteran associates, and a key to species in the genus.
Germination Of Pinus Aristata Engelm., William H. Reid
Germination Of Pinus Aristata Engelm., William H. Reid
Great Basin Naturalist
Seeds of Pinus aristata Engelm., bristlecone pine, from the type locality at the headwaters of Clear Creek in Colorado have a germination of 80 percent. Germination occurs within 10 days with or without vernalization. Scarified seeds are invaded by fungus and less than 10 percent germinate. Seedlings 10 and 180 days old do not survive exposure to −10C (14F) even when exposed to gradually decreasing temperatures to −4C (25F) for five weeks before treatment. Rapid germination, scarification mortality, and lack of cold hardness in seedlings work against the reproduction of bristlecone pine.
Seasonal Food Habits Of Barn Owls In Utah, Dwight G. Smith, Charles R. Wilson, Herbert H. Frost
Seasonal Food Habits Of Barn Owls In Utah, Dwight G. Smith, Charles R. Wilson, Herbert H. Frost
Great Basin Naturalist
The food habits of a small colony of Barn Owls in central Utah were investigated from 30 January 1969 to 30 January 1970 to determine seasonal trends in prey species composition and abundance. An analysis of 783 pellets yielded 1845 prey individuals, of which mammals, primarily Microtus, were the most abundant during all seasons of the year. A wide variety of avian prey species revealed an opportunistic aspect of Barn Owl prey selection.
