China’s digital footprint has been expanding rapidly in Latin America in the last two decades. Neither the U.S.-China tech war nor the U.S.-led global campaign aimed at Chinese tech firms seemed to be able to reverse the trend. Much of the policy discussion in the western media surrounding China’s digital expansion focuses on the supply side, emphasizing the potential risks of adopting Chinese technologies. For our museum we chose to design it as a walkthrough of a ship used during the Transatlantic trade. Through research we were able to understand how slaves on the ship were treated. We were able to understand that slaves were confined to small spaces while linked together with others during voyages. With this we were able to gather ideas on the layout of our museum. First we chose to put a set of metal chains in the museum to give a sense of how slaves had to be transported. As you walk through you will see what it was …

Gardner-Webb Announces New Partnership With Winshape Camps Beginning Next Summer, Office Of University Communications

Officials at Gardner-Webb University have announced a new partnership with WinShape Camps, established in 1985 by Chick-fil-A founder, S. Truett Cathy—that will allow the organization to expand its overnight camp offerings into the Carolinas. In June 2019, Gardner-Webb will become the fifth location to host overnight WinShape Camps and is the first location for overnight camps outside the state of Georgia. Early registration for the one-week boys’ and girls’ camps opened on June 6, with first-time overnight campers eligible for a 50-percent discount.

This poster presents a case study of how archived documents provide multi-faceted, dynamic opportunity for teaching and learning in both academia and indigenous communities. Anthropologist Jules Henry compiled extensive language and cultural field notes in the 1930s while living among the Xokleng Laklãnõ (Brazil) and Pilaga (Argentina) communities. Until recently, these documents and photographs archived at Washington University in St. Louis were seldom used. However, by starting a collaborative digital project with Unicamp State University (São Paulo, Brazil) a number of innovative uses have emerged. During the 2012-2013 academic year, over 100 students, faculty, and staff members served both the local and global communities through mission trips. Four international alumni find a common language between their RISD education and their own rich, evolving cultures. Six spring break mission teams, and 71 team members, will put Gardner-Webb’s core values of faith, service and leadership into action across the globe during March 8-18. The six trips in 2012 doubles last year’s number of spring break trips through the University’s office of Christian life and service. “We are especially excited about the great variety of projects and ministry activities our six teams are pursuing this year,” said Dr. Tracy Jessup, vice president for Christian life and service and senior minister to the University.
