The Effectiveness Of Systematic Training For Effective Parenting At Family And Child Treatment Of Southern Nevada, Melody Joyce Thompson Jan 1997

The Effectiveness Of Systematic Training For Effective Parenting At Family And Child Treatment Of Southern Nevada, Melody Joyce Thompson

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

This study evaluated the effectiveness of the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) program in its application at Family and Child Treatment (FACT) in Las Vegas, Nevada. There were five STEP sessions offered between July 1996 and February 1997. Twenty-four parents completed the program. At the beginning of each six-week session, volunteers completed a set of pretest questionnaires including the Self-Report Family Inventory (SFI), a set of four problem scenarios, and a demographics profile. After participation, posttests were collected on the SFI, the problem scenarios, and a Client Rating Counseling Outcome (CRCO) scale. Results showed that the STEP program is …

A Reevaluation Of Lower Colorado Buff Ware Ceramics: Redefining The Patayan In Southern Nevada, Gregory Richard Seymour Jan 1997

A Reevaluation Of Lower Colorado Buff Ware Ceramics: Redefining The Patayan In Southern Nevada, Gregory Richard Seymour

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Archaeological investigations in the Las Vegas area have collected significant ceramic data that have yet to be the subject of a systematic analysis. This thesis addresses issues relating to trade, exchange, and the manufacture of Lower Colorado Buff Ware ceramics found in the Las Vegas Valley. Archival research, and examination of representative ceramic assemblages from this region, address problems with existing regional models, including chronologic placement, ethnic origin, and culture change. Previous typological models, and past and present environmental conditions are presented, as well as a cultural historic context in which to place this data. Finally, a model of settlement …

A Comparison Of Roasting Pit Complexes In Southern Nevada, Connie Langford Vonsleichter Jan 1997

A Comparison Of Roasting Pit Complexes In Southern Nevada, Connie Langford Vonsleichter

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Roasting pits in southern Nevada are commonly thought to have functioned to process agave. This assumption is based on the presence of agave quids, the proximity of roasting pits to agave stands, and on ethnographic accounts of agave roasting. Soil samples from two roasting pit complexes confirm this contention, and suggest a secondary use of the features to singe spines off cacti. These conclusions are supported by research on Arizona Strip and Hohokam roasting pits.

Stratigraphy And Depositional Environments Of Lower And Middle Cambrian Strata In The Lake Mead Region, Southern Nevada And Northwestern Arizona, Joseph Kirk Hardy Jan 1997

Stratigraphy And Depositional Environments Of Lower And Middle Cambrian Strata In The Lake Mead Region, Southern Nevada And Northwestern Arizona, Joseph Kirk Hardy

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The stratigraphy and depositional systems revealed within the Lower to Middle Cambrian Tapeats Sandstone-Pioche Shale-Lyndon Limestone-Chisholm Shale succession were studied between the easternmost limit of Cretaceous overthrusting in southern Nevada and the western edge of the Colorado Plateau in northwestern Arizona. Nine intergradational lithofacies were distinguished based on a rich suite of sedimentary structures, including lenticular-, wavy-, and flaser-bedding, wrinkle marks, herringbone cross-stratification, convolute bedding, primary current lineations, interference ripple marks, bird's eye structures, thrombolites, intraformational conglomerates, oncoids, cryptalgal laminites, and Arenicoloides, Corophioides, and Skolithos ichnofossils. The collective presence of these structures indicates that Lower and Middle Cambrian rocks in …
