Effect Of The Environmental Temperature On The Degradation Period Of Carbaryl, Ahmet Uyanik, Mustafa Özdemi̇r

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, the effect of the temperature on the degradation period of Carbaryl (Sevin), a widely used outdoor and indoor insecticide, was investigated in a laboratory in soil and on green plants by using a new quantitative TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography) method. The experimental temperature conditions were 40°C , 16°C and 5°C for soil and 15°C for green plants. The results which were evaluated by photocopying of the TLC spots on a graph paper and square counting showed that carbaryl degradation is a first order reaction and the temperature dependent half-life of the degradation takes grater than four weeks …

The Effects Of Wood Bleaching Chemicals On Thebending Strength Of Wood, Burhanetti̇n Uysal, Musa Atar, Ayhan Özçi̇fçi̇

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The aim of this research was to determine the effects of bleaching chemicals on the bending strength of wood. For this purpose, sodium hydroxide + hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydroxide + calcium hydroxide + hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid were applied to pine (Pinus sylvestris L.), oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky), ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) and oak (Quercus petraea spp.) for bleaching. The results indicate that the hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid solutions caused the greatest decrease in the bending strength of the woods used in the experiment.

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was carried out to determine the shear and bending strength of different end-to-end grain joints, which were glued with PVAc (polyvinyl acetate). For this reason, specimens, prepared from scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris l), were made with three types of end to end grain joints namely: half-lap, mortise and tenon and double mortise-and-tenon. End-to-end grain of half-lap joints gave the highest strength in shear (2.385 N/mm 2 ) and bending (0.540 N/mm 2 ) experiments.

The Effect Of Drought On The Growth And Yield Of Winter Wheat, Ali̇ Öztürk Jan 1999

The Effect Of Drought On The Growth And Yield Of Winter Wheat, Ali̇ Öztürk

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The effect of drought on the growth and yield of "Dogu-88" winter wheat variety was investigated in this field experi-ment using plot covers. Fully irrigated (FI), rainfed (R), early drought (ED), late drought (LD) and continuous drought (CD) treat-ments were studied under Erzurum conditions. Changes In Nitrogen Status Of Soybean Under Influence Of Symbiotically Fixed And Bound Nitrogen, A. G. Gadimov, P. M. Safaraliev, C. N. Troistskaya, Surhay Allahverdiev, S. Nafi̇si̇

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The contribution of different nitrogen sources (nitrate 15 N-NO 3 and symbiotic N-N 2 ) to the nitrogen status of soybean in ontogenesis was studied. Nitrate was assimilated effectively during the vegetative growth, whereas later on the nitrogen-fixation by root nodules became the basic source of nitrogen. The applying of a low dose of nitrate (22.2 mg N/plant) increased the total nitrogen content in the plant and did not depress the nitrogen fixation. Distribution of the symbiotic and nitrate nitrogen among organs of soybean was proportional.

The Acidity Of Important Beech And Oak Species, Mualla Balaban, Güneş Uçar, Ethem Uğur

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The corrosion of metals in contact with wood, discoloration of wood itself, undesirable effects on wood preservatives and the curing of the synthetic resins especially glues in fiberboards, particleboards and some other effects could be traced back to the acidity of wood. Thus, this phenomenon is of a great importance in the wood utilization. In this study, two important industrial wood species , Quercus frainetto and Fagus sylvatica grown in Belgrad Forest in Turkey were investigated with respect to free, bound and total acidity of wood. Cold and hot water extracts were taken to determine the free and bound acidity …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The method used in transportation of raw forest products can be performed in two phases. The first phase is called " the minor transportation" which is the extraction and hauling of the logs from the felling areas to the landings and intermediate depots. The second phase is "the major transportation". This phase covers the hauling operation from landings and intermediate depots to the log yards or the mill yards. The forestry transportation of harvested woods from compartments is the most difficult and the most expensive operation. Since forests are generally located on high and steep slopes of mountainous area in …
