This study was conducted to determine the effects of genotype and 2,4-D concentrations on the callus induction and plant regeneration from young inflorescences of dallisgrass ( Paspalum dilatatumPoir). Segments of young inflorescences from six different ecotypes of dallisgrass were cultured on MS-medium containing different con-centrations of 2,4-D ( 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 mg/l). The results of the study showed that the ecotypes were significantly different in cal-lus induction ratio, callus weight per petri dish and plant regeneration from the young inflorescences. With respect to the ecotypes, callus induction ratio varied from 17.5 % to 65 %, callus weight …

Relationship Between Leaf Area Index At Anthesis And Yield In Wheat Under Çukurova Conditions, Müjde Koç, Celaleddi̇n Barutçular

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Wheat yields are closely related to leaf area index (LAI) at anthesis. The optimum leaf area index differs according to genotype and location conditions. Three field experiments were conducted to determine the pattern of the relationship between LAI at anthesis and yield in Çukurova , a region with an acclerated ear and grain growth. Different genotypes, seeding density and nitrogen doses were used to create a range of LAI. Biological yield (BY) and grain yield (GY) increased quadratically in response to LAI values, with greater responses for BY (R 2 =0.46**) than for GY (R 2 =0.35**). As LAI increased …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The study was carried out in the greenhouse of the Department of Field Crops, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ankara, in 1994. The experiment was conducted in split-plots design in randomised plots with four replications. Investigations On The Performance Of Some Strawberry Cultivars (Fragaria X Ananassaduch.) Grownin Open Fields And Under High Tunnel Conditions, Kubi̇lay Önal

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Five strawberry cultivars were grown as frigo seedlings planted in July by using two management systems, open grow-ing and high tunnel, in 1996 and 1997. Yield, earliness and some quality characters were observed. The high tunnel system made the crop 2-3 weeks earlier than the open field system with a longer period. Yield was also high in the high tunnel system with 1053 grams per plant while it was 877 grams in open growing. Miranda was the highest yielding cultivar in both management systems. Cultivars Camarosa and Miranda were superior for fruit weight and the rate of high quality.

Effects Of Wheel Traffic Porosity And Compaction Of Soil Profile, Cevdet Şeker, A. Ali̇ Işildar

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The aim of this experimental study was to determine the effect on soil porosity and compaction of the number of the tractor passes on the soil surface. The soil has a sandy loam texture. A tractor passed once, twice, and four times while the water content of soil was near field capacity. Numbers of tractings increased soil bulk density and compaction, and decreased total porosity, void ratio, air porosity and drainage porosity. One and two tractor passes did not markedly affect the percentage of porosity kept at field capacity porosity, but four tractor passes improved it.

Herbicide-Induced Resistance To Fusarium Wilt In Cotton And Gossypol Production Of Host Cells, Yeter Canihoş, Şener Kurt, Hülya Özgönen Jan 2000

Herbicide-Induced Resistance To Fusarium Wilt In Cotton And Gossypol Production Of Host Cells, Yeter Canihoş, Şener Kurt, Hülya Özgönen

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Pretreating cotton seeds with some herbicidies used in cotton-growing areas of the Çukurova region markedly increased cotton resistance to Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. vasinfectum. Haloxyfob and linuron reduced the mycelial growth of the pathogen in both solid and liquid cultures. However, prometryn was more effective in plant development than linuron and haloxyfob. Synthesis of Phytoalexin gossypol was significantly produced in inoculated cotton plants compared with uninoculated control plants. Maximum amounts of gossypol production were obtained in herbicide-treated and inoculated cotton plants. Gossypol extracted from herbicide-treated plants markedly reduced the mycelial growth of the pathogen in vitro.
