The standard free energy of formation for the step-wise interaction of copper(II) with each of the above ligands was calculated from the values of log K. Enthalpy and entropy changes …

The Design Of A Six Specimen Tensile Fatigue Machine, Charles Mark Percival Aug 1961

The Design Of A Six Specimen Tensile Fatigue Machine, Charles Mark Percival

Theses and Dissertations

Although metal fatigue has been recognized for many years and during that time many persons have tried to find the explanation for it, there is still not a complete theory concerning this phenomenon. Metal fatigue is one of the major problems the modem designer must face. If the design techniques are to progress as other technological advances are made, it is evident that it will involve a better understanding of metal fatigue.

Investigation Of The Platinum-Rich Portion Of The Platinum-Tantalum Phase Diagram, Bob Dean Browning

Theses and Dissertations

The Pt-Ta binary system was investigated at two isotherms;1000°C and 1500°C, and at eleven alloy compositions in the range of 50 to 100 atomic percent platinum. The alloys were examined by x-ray diffraction and metallography. Three intermetallic compounds, Pt2Ta, Pt3Ta, and Pt4Ta were found to exist in this composition range. The Pt4Ta intermetallic appeared only at the 1500°C isotherm. Platinum dissolved tantalum substitutionally to 90 atomic percent at 1500 °C and to approximately 80 atomic percent at 1000 °C.

Design Of An Air Stabilized Plasma Arc, William Robert Clarke Aug 1961

Design Of An Air Stabilized Plasma Arc, William Robert Clarke

Theses and Dissertations

The plasma-arc generator (see figure 1, 2) has been used for several years as an invaluable ground test facility in which the gas stagnation properties of hypervelocity flight may be reproduced. The plasma is produced by shorting an electric arc between two electrodes; then directing a gas stream through the arc. The gas stream is thus heated to a ''temperature " of forty to fifty thousand degrees Farenheit. At this temperature the gas is in a state of partial ionization termed "plasma". The plasma stream is then constricted and directed by a nozzle into a test chamber and over the …

A Comparative Study Of The Axillary Sclerites In Coleoptera, Howard P. Shurtleff

Theses and Dissertations

The axillary sclerites of 69 species representing 52 families of the order Coleoptera were examined and illustrations prepared of most or them. A description is given for the typical axillary sclerites and the deviations in form from this pattern are discussed for the major groups of beetles. The phylogenetic relationships between some families, and other groups, are pointed out based on the morphology of the axillary sclerites. Phyletic groups in Adephaga are characterized by the axillary sclerites, but in the Polyphaga variations are too numerous and inconsistant to be useful in determining phyletic trends.

The Surficial Geology Of Southern Logan County, North Dakota, John W. Bonneville Jan 1961

The Surficial Geology Of Southern Logan County, North Dakota, John W. Bonneville

Theses and Dissertations

Southern Logan County, North Dakota, was glaciated at least three different times during the Pleistocene epoch. Scattered patches of highly weathered iron-cemented drift found in the area of eroded Cretaceous bedrock in southwest-era Logan County are very possibly pre-Wisconsinan in age. Two younger drift sheets of Wisconsinan age cover the remaining portion of the county. One of these drifts, the Napoleon drift, is probably early Wisconsinan, and the other, the Burnstad-Streeter drift, is likely late Wisconsinan in age.

A great diversity in types of glacial topography and individual features is found in southern Logan County. Excellent examples of end moraine, …

A Textual Comparison Of The Isaiah Passages In The Book Of Mormon With The Same Passages In The St. Mark's Isaiah Scroll Of The Dead Sea Community, Wayne Ham

Theses and Dissertations

The Book of Mormon contains twenty-one chapters of the Book of Isaiah: two through fourteen, twenty-nine, and forty-eight through fifty-four. The language is primarily that of the King James Version with some variations. The King James Version itself has been translated from the Massoretic Hebrew Text. It is a fair assumption that the variations in the Book of Mormon represent an older, more accurate text than the Massoretic Text.

Textual critics are anxious to find ancient texts and versions of the scriptures in the hope that some of these texts may contain readings closer to the original than does the …
