Immersive Virtual Reality Error Management Training For Cnc Machining Setup Procedures, Matthew Ryan

Theses

In order to address the expanding manufacturing talent gap for skilled machinists and limitations with existing machining training programs, this study introduces an immersive Virtual Reality (VR) computer numerical control (CNC) machining training environment CNC machine setup processes with a novel error management-based training curriculum. Current machinist training programs typically require active mentorship from skilled individuals over several years and consume a large amount of materials and tools. In addition, mistakes and errors made during the setup process can create safety risks, waste material, and break equipment, which have not been considered by the existing VR CNC milling training environments. …

Special Needs Assistants In Primary Schools: An Investigation Of The Role, Function, And Expectations Of This Post In Ireland, Imaobong Maria Essien

Theses

This study aims to examine the role and function of the Special Needs Assistant (SNA) in Irish Primary Schools. The minimum requirement for a Special Needs Assistant (SNA) is three grade Ds in the Junior Certificate or an equivalent qualification. Existing research suggests that the role lacks clarity and has evolved to include taking on administrative, pedagogical, behavioral management, and therapeutic roles (INTO, 2017; Butler and Quinn, 2014; NCSE, 2011). This study explores the disparity between the SNA job descriptor to recognise the impact and importance of the SNA’s role in the education system. This study is underpinned by the …

Veteran Paramedics’ Experience Of Managing Work-Related Trauma: A Qualitative Study, Ryan D. Jenkins Jan 2020

Veteran Paramedics’ Experience Of Managing Work-Related Trauma: A Qualitative Study, Ryan D. Jenkins

Theses

Paramedics throughout the world are trained to competently treat the physical injuries of patients requiring pre-hospital emergency medical care. The nature of this work exposes them to highly traumatic and often life threatening situations. As a result of working with this stress and trauma, they themselves can experience emotional, psychological, and physical trauma (Gayton & Lovell, 2012). Research suggests that they receive little education and training about how to effectively manage this trauma (Gayton & Lovelle, 2012) and that many paramedics experience symptoms of Burnout, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or Depression (Beaton, 2006; Millar, 2004; Shakespeare-Finch, 2006). The impact of …

Kick Boxing Coaching System, Wentian Chen Sep 2019

Kick Boxing Coaching System, Wentian Chen

Theses

There are three key considerations when training for kickboxing; correct body position, motivation, and how to achieve different training goals. Training gear available on the market does not provide enough relevant feedback to the user to validate the effectiveness of their training. I will design a coaching system for recreational and avid kick boxers that records user input while also providing an interactive experience that tracks training in a more meaningful way. This is a project focused on user experience and product testing. User Experience requires me to study the response of the human body when it is hit, and …

Don’T Train In Vain: An Enterprise Information System Implementation Training Strategy, Luke Auburn May 2015

Don’T Train In Vain: An Enterprise Information System Implementation Training Strategy, Luke Auburn

Theses

Universities often rely on complex information systems to manage student data. When higher education institutions implement enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to replace legacy systems, they may introduce new processes, concepts, and terminology to the students, faculty, and staff who are the system’s end users. A well-executed training plan can foster end-user adoption and increase an implementation’s chance of success. This thesis project provides a blueprint for incorporating a training plan that best fits the needs of end users into an overall system implementation project plan. To effectively train end users, the training team must identify skill gaps, ascertain the …

The Effects Of Conformity And Training In A Phishing Context :Conforming To The School Of Phish, Matt Jones Jan 2015

The Effects Of Conformity And Training In A Phishing Context :Conforming To The School Of Phish, Matt Jones

Theses

Over the past decade, cybercrime has increased dramatically, and a popular way to steal someone’s information is via phishing. There are three major ways to protect from a phishing attack: automatic filters, warnings, and user training. User training makes a good safety net for the few instances when filters fail to catch a security risk and warnings go unheeded. Training is most effective when feedback is given immediately and when it is simple and engaging. Phishermen often use psychological techniques in order to gain access to sensitive information, and conformity is a well-documented phenomenon that can cause people to make …

Cross-Training In Virtual Teams, Amanda Pryor Jan 2014

Cross-Training In Virtual Teams, Amanda Pryor

Theses

Prior research has investigated the benefits that cross-training can have on a number of team outcomes, including performance, transactive memory, team efficacy, and interpositional knowledge. The present study examined the effect that different types of cross-training can have on these outcomes. Rotational and clarification cross-training were predicted to result in better team performance than own-role training alone. Transactive memory, team efficacy, task interdependency, and interpositional knowledge were predicted to mediate this relationship. Results indicate that cross-training had no effect on team performance, which could have been the consequence of information overload or a weak manipulation. Cross-training did significantly impact transactive …

The Effect Of Training, Aim Pattern And Target Type On The Ergonomics And Efficiency Of Handheld Scanners, Nicolette M. Mcgeorge

Theses

Handheld scanning is a prevalent industrial task that is prone to injury due to the repetitive motion of the task. Studies conducted with Rochester Institute of Technology and Honeywell have sought to discover the ergonomic and efficiency benefits of various scanning technologies and methods. One factor not fully investigated in these earlier works is the effect of training on the proper use of scanners. This thesis study compares trained and untrained user performance and ergonomics during a series of scanning tasks using a hand held omni-directional scanner. Comparison is based on such variables as target type (image that is scanned), …
