This paper examines the resilience of Laura Clark, Carrie Davis, and Delia Garlic, three formerly enslaved women from Alabama whose memories and experiences during enslavement were part of a large slave narrative project called Born in Slavery: Slave Narratives from the Federal Writers’ Project, 1936 to 1938. The design exhibition, Seeing Slavery, visually communicates and portrays the accounts and portraits of the three women. Printed and embroidered fabrics visually communicate the narrative stories of these women, while their portraits are made from screen printed acrylic glass.

The Relationship Between Religion And Diet-Related Disparities In African American Men., Joel Hamilton

This study utilized a cross-sectional design to report quantitative results. Equal numbers of African American men, religious and non-religious, were sought out for comparison. Participants must have identified as African American, been 30 years of age or older, and lived within 10 miles of Carbondale, IL during the time of the study. African American men are at an increased risk of developing many diet-related disparities. This study aimed to see if religion influenced these factors.

This study combines an American Political Development approach to researching the history of racial segregation in Saint Louis with quantitative data focusing on African American attitudes related to politics, police and social prejudice following the civil unrest in Ferguson and Saint Louis City. The research I present emphasizes that decades of race-based municipal segregation in the Saint Louis area has combined with recent events and caused a majority of African American residents to become more suspicious of white police officers patrolling their neighborhoods

“A Zebra in the Infield” is a dark comedy about a young African American man named Rotavious from the inner-city. Rotavious is a recent college graduate and he is venturing into the suburbs to purchase a car. After catching a bus to the predominantly Caucasian side of town, he is profiled and harassed by police officer Colescott. Officer Colescott searches Rotavious and finds the money that Rotavious has allocated for his new car, he seizes it as drug money. Within a society, the dominant ideology about aesthetics is instilled in individuals at a very early age. Hegemonic standards concerning the subject of hair style and texture has been an ongoing debate in the Black community for decades. A content analysis of videos on the video-sharing website YouTube was conducted to examine perceptions on African American women’s hair style, the relationship between the perceptions on hair style and gender, and the function of African American women’s’ hair styles as a status symbol. New Findings For Contemporary Marketing To Black Men: A Content Analysis Of Alcoholic Beverage Ad Appeals From Ebony And Gq Magazines, Joshua Jedidiah Myers

The present study uses content analysis to investigate differences in alcoholic beverage advertisement appeals, from Ebony and Gentlemen's Quarterly magazines, aimed at Black men in contrast to the mainstream male demographic. The present study reports that there are no significant statistical differences between ad appeals aimed at Black men and the mainstream male demographic. Consequently, it is suggested that cultural unawareness has displaced racial and ethnic stereotyping in contemporary marketing to Black men.
