What is the nature of worship and why do we do it? This is a question prompted in Earl Davis by a (somewhat cynical) answer from an evangelical minister friend, who quipped that Sunday service was only entertainment. Davis lands on the fact that, despite its wondrous beauty and our natural seeking for truth, that there remain deep mysteries in the world. The purpose of worship is to feed this sense in our individual and community selves.

Davis finds the 100th anniversary of Unitarianism to be a church without a creed. The key point is not a question of doctrine so much as a question of the proper method to resolve differences of opinion about doctrine. While Catholicism has an authority, the Pope, he sees Protestantism as moving toward the congregation and sincere individual belief.
