Gsu Lincoln Laureate Honored, Office Of Public Affairs

Each year an outstanding senior from each of the four-year degree granting institutions of higher learning in Illinois is named a Student Laureate of The Lincoln Academy of Illinois.

This year’s Lincoln Laureate from Governors State University is Darwin Gordon of Chicago. Gordon exemplifies the characteristics of Lincoln Laureates, who are chosen for their commitment to the principles of democracy and humanity as embodied by Abraham Lincoln. Gordon was also honored for his outstanding academic achievement and his extensive and committed service to those in need.

This year’s Lincoln Laureate from Governors State University is Titus Payton of Chicago. Payton is a senior in the Elementary Education program at GSU. He is currently completing his student teaching at O. W. Huth Middle School in Matteson and will graduate in February.

Governors State University recently announced that senior Loni Grosz has been selected the 2007 Student Lincoln Laureate from GSU.

“This is an honor reserved for the undergraduate who attains both the highest academic level and who contributes positively to the community,” said Dr. Sherilyn Poole, Interim Dean for Student Co-curricular Activities and Services. “Loni is a perfect choice based on her excellent academic standing and her service to children as an elementary school teacher.”
