Cedarville University’s Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy are partnering with Cedarville’s athletic department to help the community “get moving” during the new year with the second annual “Couch to 5K” campaign. The campaign includes a wellness fair from 4:30-7 p.m. in the Stranahan Gymnasium during the women’s and men’s home basketball games on Jan. 5.

Myriam Shaw Ojeda was recently selected to be a regional member-at-large for the American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP).

Ojeda, president-elect of Cedarville’s APhA-ASP chapter and second-year professional pharmacy student, will represent 25 pharmacy schools in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois and Kentucky (region 4).

The church’s role in the growing opioid crisis in Ohio will be addressed at the Faith Leaders Conference on Friday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Cedarville University. The event, an initiative of the Drug-Free Action Alliance (DFAE) and supported by Gov. John Kasich, will equip faith leaders to help prevent substance abuse and support those who need restoration.

"Start Talking!" Initiative Brings Kasich, Pharmacy Students Together On Campaign To End Drug Abuse, Mark D. Weinstein

Three professors and 23 Cedarville University pharmacy students will be recognized for their involvement in Gov. John Kasich’s “Start Talking!” drug-free initiative Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Governor’s Residence and Heritage Garden in Columbus.

The initiative was created by Kasich and first lady Karen Kasich in an effort to prevent drug abuse. The Governor’s Office of Faith Based Community Initiatives collaborated with Cedarville’s School of Pharmacy to create and develop a scriptural drug abuse program on the dangers of substance abuse that can be an educational resource to churches throughout Ohio. A student organization at Cedarville University is launching a wellness initiative to motivate students, faculty and staff to practice total body health.

CU Pharm Fit, an initiative launched from within the graduate pharmacy program, comprised of students, faculty, and staff from Cedarville’s School of Pharmacy, focuses on five core areas associated with complete wellness: nutrition/hydration, exercise, sleep, relaxation and spiritual growth.

In the midst of flu season, health care professionals stand on the front lines by taking care of sick patients. But being on the front lines comes with its own set of risks, and a recent partnership between the Cedarville University School of Pharmacy, Ohio Valley Surgical Hospital (OVSH) and several independent pharmacies in Springfield, Ohio, is bringing changes for health care employees.

Through a newly developed wellness initiative, employees at OVSH will have greater assistance in dealing with diabetes or other health issues through their local pharmacy, rather than the traditional office visit.

Cedarville University will operate its first Limited Liability Company (LLC), Cedar Care, LLC, beginning January 25, 2016. This new venture will allow the school of pharmacy, in collaboration with Ohio Pharmacy Counseling Services LTD, to create a management call center that will aid people as they use prescription drugs.
