"The periodic dielectric rod antenna structure under consideration consists of identical dielectric rod sections of radius a meters situated on a common axis. These sections are of length 1₁ meters and are separated in free space by distance 1₂ meters.

Field analysis employing Floquet's theorem, in terms of the exemplary TM₀₁ circular mode, gives expressions for the various field components and an eigenvalue equation. Digital solution of this eigenvalue equation establishes the location of propagation bands as a function of frequency. Such bands are characteristic of any periodic wave guiding structure."--Abstract, page ii.
