In this thesis I hope to present a picture of the effect the life of Edgar Allan Poe had upon his writing. Poe was and still is a controversial figure. Many of his biographers and critics agree that the illnesses and deaths of those dearest to him and the constant pressure of outer tragic circumstances played a great part in what he put down upon paper.
