Traits As Self-Schemata And Their Effect On Recall Of Content-Specific Adjectives, Victor Lee Barrow
Traits As Self-Schemata And Their Effect On Recall Of Content-Specific Adjectives, Victor Lee Barrow
Master's Theses
The concept that personality traits serve as a priori self schemata cognitive structures in memory was investigated. College students from University of Richmond were tested on recall of 160 content-specific adjectives and then administered the Personality Research Form. After being shown the list of adjectives, subjects were given a five-minute distractor task and then given fifteen minutes to recall as many adjectives as possible. A correlational analysis was performed on the scores on the personality traits of achievement, affiliation, autonomy, dominance, endurance, nurturance, order, play, sentience, and understanding and with the recall of content-specific adjectives. The correlation between the trait …
The Effects Of Stress On The Blood Calcium Level In The Male White Rat (Rattus Norvegicus), Howard Perry Cobb
The Effects Of Stress On The Blood Calcium Level In The Male White Rat (Rattus Norvegicus), Howard Perry Cobb
Master's Theses
THE EFFECTS OF STRESS ON THE BLOOD CALCIUM LEVEL IN THE MALE WHITE RAT (Rattus norvegicus) by Howard Perry Cobb I I I was writ ten as part of the requirements for a Master of Science degree in Biology at the University of Richmond (May, 1985). The present experiment was designed to determine whether parathyroid hormone (PTH) can be considered a "stress" hormone. Parathyroidectomized (PX) male rats (160-200 g) were injected with 10, 20, or 30 USP units of PTH per 100 g body weight and subjected to confinement/UHF stress for a 1.5-h period. Serum calcium levels of these PX …
The Self-Concept Of Pregnant And Nonpregnant Adolescents And Changes That Occur Between Trimesters, Linda Aileen Furlani
The Self-Concept Of Pregnant And Nonpregnant Adolescents And Changes That Occur Between Trimesters, Linda Aileen Furlani
Master's Theses
Twenty-two nonpregnant adolescents and 14 pregnant adolescents selected from Chesterfield Health Department's clinic population participated in a study to determine if the self-concept of a nonpregnant adolescent is higher than that of a pregnant adolescent. Each group was further subdivided into a middle adolescent and a late adolescent category to determine if there is any difference in the self-concept of a pregnant adolescent in the middle adolescent stage versus that of a pregnant adolescent in the late adolescent stage. Coopersmith's Self-Esteem Inventory (SEI), School Form, was administered to test the subject's perception of herself and to measure evaluative attitudes toward …
Atp Defendent Na+ Transport And The Characterization Of Na+ / Nh4+ Exchange In Basolateral Vesicles Of The Blue Crab, Callinectes Sapidus, Gill, Linda Ann Fuhrman
Atp Defendent Na+ Transport And The Characterization Of Na+ / Nh4+ Exchange In Basolateral Vesicles Of The Blue Crab, Callinectes Sapidus, Gill, Linda Ann Fuhrman
Master's Theses
ATP dependent Na+ transport was denonstrated in purified ba.solateral vesicles of the blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) gill. Active Na+ uptake was dependent upon the intravesicular presence of either K+ or NH; as a counterion. Final membrane preparations consist of inside-out basolateral vesicles, evidenced by intravesicular ouabain (1 rrM) and extravesicular vanadate (1 rnM) 22Na + uptake inhibition. Na+/NH4+exchange rates were investigated by detennining the NH; concentration in the recovered extravesicular nedium and by using the kinetic capabilities of a DU7 spectrophotareter. These purified basolateral membranes, rich in Na+,K+ …
Anatomy And Systematics Of Penthorum L., Melanie Lynn Haskins
Anatomy And Systematics Of Penthorum L., Melanie Lynn Haskins
Master's Theses
The genus Penthorum L. consists of two species of perennial herbs, P. sedoides of eastern North America and P. chinense of eastern Asia. Penthorum has long be.en considered intermediate between crassulaceae and Saxifragaceae. An anatomical study of both species was undertaken to contribute to a better understanding of the relationships of these plants. Prominent anatomical features of Penthorum include: an aerenchymatous cortex and closely-spaced collateral vascular bundles of stems; one-trace unilacunar nodes; brochidodromous venation, rosoid teeth bearing hydathodes, and anomocytic stomata of leaves; angular vessel elements with many-barred scalariform perforation plates and alternate to scattered intervascular pits; thin-walled non-septate fiber-tracheids; …
An Electrophoretic Analysis Of The Genetic Relationship Between Etheostoma Nigrum And Etheostoma Olmstedi (Percidae: Etheostomatini) In The James River Drainage Of Virginia, John Stuart Prince Jr.
An Electrophoretic Analysis Of The Genetic Relationship Between Etheostoma Nigrum And Etheostoma Olmstedi (Percidae: Etheostomatini) In The James River Drainage Of Virginia, John Stuart Prince Jr.
Master's Theses
Etheostoma nigrum Rafinesque 1820, the Johnny darter ranges from Alabama to the Hudson Bay and from Colorado east to the Atlantic slope in the James, Roanoke, Tar and Neuse Rivers. Etheostoma olmstedi Storer 1842, the tesselated darter, is restricted to the east coast in the Atlantic and Lake Ontario drainage. In the James and Roanoke River systems in Virginia E. nigrum occupies the piedmont and montane regions whereas E. olmstedi primarily inhabits the coastal plain. The relationship between the morphologically similar species of darters (subgenus Boleosoma) is controversial and has been investigated by several authors. Stone (1947), using multiple character …
Interpersonal Consequences Of Expressing Concern About Nuclear War, Ann Angell Dew
Interpersonal Consequences Of Expressing Concern About Nuclear War, Ann Angell Dew
Master's Theses
The effects of sex role expectations within the context of the nuclear war issue were examined in this study. Sixty males and sixty females, ranging in age from 18 to 22 years, participated in this study. They were obtained from the introductory psychology courses at the University of Richmond. Each subject read a questionnaire, supposedly completed by another University of Richmond undergraduate, and answered two Likert-type questions measuring the degree to which the subject would like to meet and become friends with the target. The independent variables were sex of the target, sex of subject, and expression of concern about …
Personality Variables That Discriminate Pseudoseizures Patients And Epileptic Patients Used In The 16 Pf, Patricia Lane Marshall
Personality Variables That Discriminate Pseudoseizures Patients And Epileptic Patients Used In The 16 Pf, Patricia Lane Marshall
Master's Theses
This project was designed to study the effect of certain personality factors on pseudoseizure patients. It was hypothesized that Factors C and O in the 16 Personality Questionnaire could serve as predictor variables for the criterion variable, positive diagnosis of pseudoseizure versus true epileptic seizures. It was also hypothesized that these two groups, pseudoseizure versus epileptic seizure, would differ significantly on a test titled the Sickness Impact Profile. The two scales in this test, psychosocial and physical, were examined. Two discriminant analyses were performed with these two tests being the predictor variables and group membership being the criterion variable. Non-significant …
Factors Affecting The Political Stability Of Certain Latin American Countries, Sue Fulghum
Factors Affecting The Political Stability Of Certain Latin American Countries, Sue Fulghum
Master's Theses
The purpose of this paper is to test the hypothesis that the factors that have produced political stability in Mexico have been largely absent from the political development experience of other Latin American countries that have experi~nced instability. Based on the literature on political development theory and on an historical survey of political development in Mexico, the factors of consensus, legitimacy and institutionalization are identified as having been primarily responsible for political stability. These factors have allowed the Mexican political system to respond successfully to the destabilizing pressures of modernization, economic development, social mobilization and urbanization, as well as the …

The Political Career Of Robert Whitehead, William Baldwin Obrochta
The Political Career Of Robert Whitehead, William Baldwin Obrochta
Master's Theses
Robert Whitehead represented Nelson County in the Virginia General Assembly from 1942 until his death in 1960. He was widely recognized as the leading opponent to the dominant "Byrd Organization" in the state legislature. In this capacity, he often acted as a one-man party in opposition to the organization's financial, political, educational and public services policies. A gifted orator and financial expert, Whitehead was often mentioned as a potential candidate for governor although he was never able to commit himself to a state-wide race.
This thesis examines the political career of Robert Whitehead and evaluates his role in Virginia politics, …
