Global Experimental Effects Of Country Of Origin And Product Type On The Structural Parameters Of A Purchase Intentions Model., Ruth L. Lumb Jan 1997

Global Experimental Effects Of Country Of Origin And Product Type On The Structural Parameters Of A Purchase Intentions Model., Ruth L. Lumb

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

An empirical assessment of the overall effects of country of origin and product type on the structural parameters of a purchase intentions model is undertaken. First, it is theorized that (1) product involvement, (2) perceived risk, (3) psychic distance, (4) perceived product quality, and (5) national character will directly or indirectly affect purchase intentions of imported goods. These constructs form the operational framework for purchase intentions of foreign-made products, which is presented in the form of a structural equation model. Secondly, it is proposed that country of origin and product type may be viewed as global experimental variables, thereby having …

Fit And Organizational Turnaround: An Examination Of The Performance Implications Of Strategy Content And Process Fit And Strategy And Cause Of Decline Fit., Christopher L. Shook Jan 1997

Fit And Organizational Turnaround: An Examination Of The Performance Implications Of Strategy Content And Process Fit And Strategy And Cause Of Decline Fit., Christopher L. Shook

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Generally, extant turnaround research has been inductively based and has limited its conceptualization of strategy to strategy content. This study builds on past research by incorporating strategy process and theoretically deriving the causes of decline. In general terms, this study posits that fit (consistency) between strategy process and content is critical to an organization's ability to recover from poor performance. Specifically, the following are considered consistent responses: (1) an entrepreneurial strategy with decentralized decision making and expanded information usage; and, (2) an efficiency strategy with centralized decision making and constricted information usage. Additionally, organizations need to fit their strategy to …

Changing Tastes: Purchase Choice In Urban China., Ann Mcconnell Veeck Jan 1997

Changing Tastes: Purchase Choice In Urban China., Ann Mcconnell Veeck

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

Food purchase options have expanded greatly in urban areas in the People's Republic of China as a result of recent market reforms. Still, given the influences sociocultural factors, the restructuring of food consumption in China need not be expected to follow patterns observed in the West. This investigation of food purchase behavior was based on a ten-month period of field study in Nanjing, China. The adoption of time related food purchase behaviors was studied, including use of processed food, restaurant use, and frequency of food shopping trips. Food consumption habits were investigated in the context of how these patterns contribute …

An Empirical Analysis Of The Association Between The Intercompany Effects Of Electronic Data Interchange And The Level Of Computerization And Integration Of The Accounting Information System In Small Businesses., Maurice George Durler Jan 1997

An Empirical Analysis Of The Association Between The Intercompany Effects Of Electronic Data Interchange And The Level Of Computerization And Integration Of The Accounting Information System In Small Businesses., Maurice George Durler

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

This study investigates intercompany effects on the accounting information system (AIS) of small businesses when electronic data interchange (EDI) is implemented at the request of influential trading partners. The intercompany effects are examined by analyzing the association of the owner/manager's attitude toward computers, the owner/manager's perception that EDI was forced on the business, and the owner/manager's awareness of EDI benefits, with the level of AIS computerization and integration (AIS computerization). Two groups of hypotheses are proposed. The hypotheses in the first group assert that an association exists between the level of AIS computerization, the owner/manager's general computer attitude, and the …

Modeling Hrm In Context: Examining The Role Of Human Resource Manager Discretion., Elyssa Blanton Schultz Jan 1997

Modeling Hrm In Context: Examining The Role Of Human Resource Manager Discretion., Elyssa Blanton Schultz

LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses

This dissertation presents a model focusing on human resource manager discretion and its role in influencing variations in HRM. Discretion, defined here as the latitude of action of human resource managers, is suggested as an important means of accounting for differing levels of constraint facing the HRM function. Because the model developed here focuses on discretion as a characteristic which is common to theories of choice and environmental determinism in organizational research, it is designed to stimulate future research that simultaneously considers predictions of HRM structure and content that have, to this point, been considered contradictory. In general, the results …
