Predictive Modeling Of Fuel Efficiency Of Trucks, Srivatsa Bindingnolle Narasimha Dec 2015

Predictive Modeling Of Fuel Efficiency Of Trucks, Srivatsa Bindingnolle Narasimha

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

This research studied the behavior of several controllable variables that affect the fuel efficiency of trucks. Re-routing is the process of modifying the parameters of the routes for a set of trips to optimize fuel consumption and also to increase customer satisfaction through efficient deliveries. This is an important process undertaken by a food distribution company to modify the trips to adapt to the immediate necessities. A predictive model was developed to calculate the change in Miles per Gallon (MPG) whenever a re-route is performed on a region of a particular distribution area. The data that was used, was from …

Further Investigation Into The Role Of Education In The Demand For Health Care, Mohammad Al-Hadi Al-Bakir Al-Barazi Jan 1978

Further Investigation Into The Role Of Education In The Demand For Health Care, Mohammad Al-Hadi Al-Bakir Al-Barazi

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

This dissertation intends to examine the inconsistency prevailing in the health economics literature between theoretical predictions and empirical findings concerning the role of education in the determination of health care services. Starting from the premise that the household’s stock of health capital is a nondurable commodity which depreciates over time; that it can be augmented by investment; that the household production function for gross investment in health capital stock is homogeneous of degree one in both inputs of health care services and health care time; that a ‘factor-neutral’ education enters the production function of the household as an environmental variable …

The Determinants Of Modal Choice Of Urban Travel: A Case Study, Martin Williams Jan 1976

The Determinants Of Modal Choice Of Urban Travel: A Case Study, Martin Williams

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

Over the past 30 years, Public transit has experienced considerable problems in attracting riders. Much has been documented about the decline in transit use for travel activities in large urban areas. The loss of passengers has been met with increased fares and reductions in the level of service, both of which resulted in further decline in the level of use. Also, increasing affluence and greater automobile ownership, along with the decline in public transit service, have made the auto the dominant mode of transportation. In 1970, four out of five households owned a car in the United States. The nation …

Imperfect Knowledge, Decisionmaking And The Firm: A Theoretical Investigation Of Efficient Reward Schemes, Lloyd R. Cohen Jan 1975

Imperfect Knowledge, Decisionmaking And The Firm: A Theoretical Investigation Of Efficient Reward Schemes, Lloyd R. Cohen

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

This dissertation is an investigation into the relationship between the way in which factors of production are rewarded and the nature of the firm. A model of rewards is developed embodying risk and measurement costs. The problem of rewards to decision-makers under uncertainty is also addressed and a model of an efficient reward scheme is presented. Finally, the question of the incentive effects, both in terms of work effort and efficient decision-making, and the probability distribution of such events as promotions and dismissals is examined. The analysis employed is both discursive and mathematical.

Inflation And Economic Growth: A Dynamic Analysis Of Deficit Finance, Byung-Joon Whang Jan 1974

Inflation And Economic Growth: A Dynamic Analysis Of Deficit Finance, Byung-Joon Whang

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

This paper attempts to answer two questions. First, is a policy of inflationary capital formation (ICF) capable of permanently raising the growth path of real output? When all the dynamic propagations of the initial impact of ICF spendings are accounted for and it is shown that the resulting public capital formation is simply a substitute for otherwise available private capital formation, then the policy of ICF would have failed the first test. Second, if ICF spendings do accelerate output growth, what rate of ICF would be most conducive to a rapid relieving of factor imbalance and the sustained promotion of …

Capital And Output In The Mexican Economy, 1939-67, Mary Ann Throup Jan 1974

Capital And Output In The Mexican Economy, 1939-67, Mary Ann Throup

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

This study examines capital/output ratios for Mexico within the framework of Bićanić’s theory of development. Mexico’s declining capital coefficient over the 1939-67 period conforms to Bićanić’s third stage where external and internal economies are experienced. Sectoral investigations indicate declining coefficients in the infrastructure sector are largely responsible for this situation while an aggregate analysis presents significant evidence of internal and external economies resulting from the elimination of “bottlenecks” on the supply side.

Potential Output And Sources Of Economic Growth In The Indian Economy, 1950-51 To 1964-65, N. R. Murthy Jan 1974

Potential Output And Sources Of Economic Growth In The Indian Economy, 1950-51 To 1964-65, N. R. Murthy

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

The study of potential output and the sources of economic growth has become in the last fifteen years an important part of economic literature. Most of the studies on potential output and the sources of economic growth have been carried out mainly for the United States, some Western European countries and Canada. There is a small number of such studies on the less developed economies. In fact, there are no studies on potential output and sources of economic growth in the Indian economy. The present study is an attempt to fill in this gap.

This chapter attempts to present an …

On The Transformation Problem, Mihalis Hatziprokopiou Jan 1974

On The Transformation Problem, Mihalis Hatziprokopiou

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

In the first two volumes of Capital it is assumed that commodities are exchanged according to their values; with different organic compositions of capital for each sector of the economy this assumption leads to different rates of profit, a result which is not consistent neither with the reality of a capitalist system nor with the Marxian assumptions. Marx points out the problem in the third volume of Capital where he introduces the concept of prices of production (cost plus average profit on capital employed) as deviations from the actual values of the commodities. He maintains that when the economy enters …

The Demand For Nonfarm Housing: A Time Series Analysis, Jong Keun You Jan 1973

The Demand For Nonfarm Housing: A Time Series Analysis, Jong Keun You

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

In this study, an attempt is made to identify the sources of bias in the estimates of the elasticities of housing demand and estimate the demand functions for housing with emphasis on the problem of identification. The main finding of this study is that the permanent income elasticity of housing demand is about 0.3 and the price elasticity of housing demand is about 0.35. The study is composed of static analysis and dynamic and analysis. On the contrary to relative abundance of static analyses, there have been very few dynamic studies. Furthermore, the distributed lag model which has been commonly …

A Development Planning Model For An Underdeveloped Economy With Special Reference To Lebanon, Muntasir M. Labban Jan 1972

A Development Planning Model For An Underdeveloped Economy With Special Reference To Lebanon, Muntasir M. Labban

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

This study is an attempt to analyze the distinct features of the Lebanese economy, its special structure, and consequences and the role that can be played by the government. At different stages, hereafter, I reference to planning models of Harrod, Kurihara, Tinbergen, and Ichimura will be analyzed in conjunction with the Lebanese experience. Data has been fitted to most of the models utilized and conclusions have been derived, and the possibilities of manipulating policy parameters are indicated. One goal for manipulating policy parameters is to enhance the rate of growth of the economy on a sustained long-run basis. Among others, …

Arnolfo di Cambio (ca. 1245/50-1301/09) created a new sculptural style based upon the classicism of Nicola Pisano, his teacher, and answering the needs of his powerful patrons, Charles of Anjou and Boniface VIII. This study: presents Arnolfo’s biography, including contemporary documents (in appendix); characterizes Arnolfo’s sculptural style; assembles the critical scholarship on Arnolfo’s sculpture; and arrives at as complete a list of Arnolfo’s oeuvre as possible. Finally this paper assesses the impact of Arnolfo’s massive, authoritative style on his contemporaries.

Each work is examined in the light of the traditional attributions, largely from Vasari and Baldinucci, and modern scholarship. Thereafter …

Dynamic Models Of Economic Development And International Capital Movements, Kiyoshi Abe Jan 1970

Dynamic Models Of Economic Development And International Capital Movements, Kiyoshi Abe

Graduate Dissertations and Theses

There has been a growing awareness that the traditional theory of international capital movements is static and must be reformulated by including dynamic elements that are common in the actual world. This awareness has long since occupied the mind of the present author whose study covers not only the so-called ‘classical’ theory of J.S. Mill, F.W. Taussig, F.G. Graham, et al, and the ‘modern’ theory of B. Ohlin, G. Harberler, R.F. Harrod, et al, in the field of international economics, but also the postwar development of the theory of economic growth initiated by R.F. Harrod and E.D. Domar. The lack …
