Optimal Scheduling Of Connected And Autonomous Vehicles At A Reservation-Based Intersection., Muting Ma Aug 2022

Optimal Scheduling Of Connected And Autonomous Vehicles At A Reservation-Based Intersection., Muting Ma

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Reservation-based intersection control has been evaluated with better performance over traditional signal controls in terms of intersection safety, efficiency, and emission. Controlling connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) at a reservation-based intersection in terms of improving intersection efficiency is performed via two factors: trajectory (speed profile) and arrival time of CAVs at the intersection. In an early stage of the reservation-based intersection control, an intersection controller at the intersection may fail to find a feasible solution for both the trajectory and arrival time for a CAV at a certain planning horizon. Leveraging a deeper understanding of the control problem, reservation-based intersection …

Cross-Layer Optimization On Wireless Visual Sensor Networks For 3d Indoor Monitoring: A Top-Down Approach, Zhonghui Wang Jan 2021

Cross-Layer Optimization On Wireless Visual Sensor Networks For 3d Indoor Monitoring: A Top-Down Approach, Zhonghui Wang

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

As one of the latest advances in wireless sensor network (WSN), wireless visual sensor network (WVSN) bears a number of distinct features compared to its predecessor, mainly due to its directional visual coverage on the sensing field. This also renders previous solutions proposed for WSN may not work well for WVSN. For example, k-coverage has been introduced to WSNs for fault tolerance and high monitoring quality by omni-directional sensors but becomes incapable to cope with the directional coverage of sensors in WVSNs. Moreover, compared to scalar data in WSNs, visual data are much larger, difficult to aggregate and usually streamed …

Stochastic Goal Programming And A Metaheuristic For Scheduling Of Operating Rooms, Justin William Britt Dec 2015

Stochastic Goal Programming And A Metaheuristic For Scheduling Of Operating Rooms, Justin William Britt

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Health care systems in Canada provide benefits to patients but have issues with costs and wait lists. Long wait lists negatively affect patients’ welfares. This in turn can increase costs because conditions can develop into more complicated ones over time. Operating rooms in a hospital are responsible for a significant portion of both costs and benefits; therefore, finding ways to use them more efficiently can reduce both the waste of tax dollars and the lengths of wait lists and can improve patients’ welfares. In this research, a stochastic weighted goal programming model is proposed to perform elective surgery scheduling under …

A Real-Time Crane Service Scheduling Decision Support System (Css-Dss) For Construction Tower Cranes, Amir Tork Jan 2013

A Real-Time Crane Service Scheduling Decision Support System (Css-Dss) For Construction Tower Cranes, Amir Tork

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The success of construction projects depends on proper use of construction equipment and machinery to a great extent. Thus, appropriate planning and control of the activities that rely on construction equipment could have significant effects on improving the efficiency of project operations. Cranes are the largest and most conspicuous construction equipment, widely used in typical construction sites. They play a major role in relocation of materials in horizontal and vertical directions on construction sites. Given the nature of activities relying on construction cranes in various stages of a project, cranes normally have control over the critical path of the project …

Scheduling Procedures For A Family Practice Doctor's Office., Gabriel Barron May 2011

Scheduling Procedures For A Family Practice Doctor's Office., Gabriel Barron

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In order to allow quality healthcare to be available to more people, healthcare must be as affordable as possible. Ideally this will be done through the elimination of the waste that is built into the current healthcare system. One area that is ready for waste reduction is the manner in which family practice doctors’ offices and hospitals schedule patients. Despite hospitals being incredibly sophisticated and employing very intelligent individuals, their scheduling is often very old fashioned and does not take into account walk-in patients or no-show patients. Fortunately, some more advanced scheduling methods have been developed. One of these scheduling …

Preventive Maintenance And Replacement Scheduling : Models And Algorithms., Kamran S. Moghaddam May 2010

Preventive Maintenance And Replacement Scheduling : Models And Algorithms., Kamran S. Moghaddam

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Preventive maintenance is a broad term that encompasses a set of activities aimed at improving the overall reliability and availability of a system. Preventive maintenance involves a basic trade-off between the costs of conducting maintenance/replacement activities and the cost savings achieved by reducing the overall rate of occurrence of system failures. Designers of preventive maintenance schedules must weigh these individual costs in an attempt to minimize the overall cost of system operation. They may also be interested in maximizing the system reliability, subject to some sort of budget constraint. In this dissertation, we present a complete discussion about the problem …

Planning And Scheduling For Large-Scaledistributed Systems, Han Yu Jan 2005

Planning And Scheduling For Large-Scaledistributed Systems, Han Yu

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Many applications require computing resources well beyond those available on any single system. Simulations of atomic and subatomic systems with application to material science, computations related to study of natural sciences, and computer-aided design are examples of applications that can benefit from the resource-rich environment provided by a large collection of autonomous systems interconnected by high-speed networks. To transform such a collection of systems into a user's virtual machine, we have to develop new algorithms for coordination, planning, scheduling, resource discovery, and other functions that can be automated. Then we can develop societal services based upon these algorithms, which hide …
