On the first day of his first administration, President Franklin Roosevelt announced: In the field of world policy, I would dedicate this nation to the policy of the Good Neighbor -- the neighbor who resolutely respects himself and, because he does so, respects the rights of others -- the neighbor who respects his obligations and respects the sanctity of his agreements in and with a world of neighbors. Although Roosevelt's verbal touch was needed to give this foreign policy a name, definite changes in the Latin American policy of the United States had already appeared during the preceding Hoover administration. …

The Condensation Of Phenols With Succinic And Maleic Anhydrides, Lewis L. Sisson
The Condensation Of Phenols With Succinic And Maleic Anhydrides, Lewis L. Sisson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The condensation of various phenols with phthalic anhydride is well known. In many cases the first preparation was made so long ago that our library contains no record of the author who first reported the condensation. A table of common indicators lists the following compounds which are the result of the condensation of phenols with phthalic anhydride: tetraiodofluoescein, dichlorofluoresfcein, b-naphtholphthalein, o-cresolphthalein, phenopthalein, and thymolphthalein. In addition to these many sulfonphthaleins are well known. These compounds are commonly prepared by the reation of the phenol with phthalic anhydride in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid at elevated temperatures, for varying lengths …
A Study Of Some Factors Influencing The Nitrate Content Of Oat Seedlings, Eugene I. Whitehead
A Study Of Some Factors Influencing The Nitrate Content Of Oat Seedlings, Eugene I. Whitehead
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Analysis of samples of oat hay frequently reveals concentrations of nitrates sufficient to be toxic and cause occasional livestock losses. Pigweeds and sorghum having high concentrations of nitrate nitrogen have also been reported as being toxic to cattle. In view of this fact this study was begun to determine what factors might play a role in nitrate metabolism and the extent of their influence.

A Study Of Extra-Curricular Financing In The Larger Schools Of South Dakota And Southwestern Minnesota, Lester D. Horrigan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A study of extra-curricular financing in the larger secondary schools of South Dakota and southwestern Minnesota was undertaken with six objectives in view: (1) to find how funds are raised to finance the extra-curricular program, ( 2) to find how these funds are apportioned and who has charge of this apportionment, (3) to find whether a decentralized or centralized method of handling these funds is used, (4) to find, if finances are handled by a centralized plan, who the finance officer is, and what his duties are as finance officer, (5) to present a plan, for purpose of example, with …

The Philosophic Basis For The Thomistic Concept Of Education, Margaret Mary Woolcott
The Philosophic Basis For The Thomistic Concept Of Education, Margaret Mary Woolcott
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The confusion that besets our modern educational systems is born of a denial or an ignorance of a vital philosophy. The need for unity and for restoration of human ideals is more than apparent. The philosophy of common sense has suffered much at the hands of a pseudo-scientism, with the result that man is often considered a machine to which education must turn its attention merely in order to "oils its physiological cogs." What is more, atheism, not only in its mitigated forms, but also in its absolute form, has left its mark on modern theories of education. Secularization, scientism, …

A Nephelometric Study Of Silver Bromide Sols, Charles A. Kinsley
A Nephelometric Study Of Silver Bromide Sols, Charles A. Kinsley
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Colorimetry measures the quantity of absorbed light nephelomery measures the quantity of reflected light. Nephelometry posses certain advantages not to be found in other quantitative methods. The average worker is accustomed in most cases to estimating relatively large amounts of substances by gravimetric means, the limitations of which are well known. Insolubility, knowledge of composition, purity, rapid filtration, accurate weighing, constancy of ignition--many of these are sometimes difficult in practice to attain. Nephelometric determinations often may be carried out without the necessity of accomplishing the above.
